I have already several years a Garmin navigation system with Europe map and lifelong updates in use. This equipment made more and more problems with the fixes I decided to buying a new one. This happened right then spontaneously in this year's Easter sales. The decisive factor was next to the pretty good price of 159.- lifelong Lifetime Traffic subscription via coupled smartphone. The Lifetime Map updates are also an absolute must for such an acquisition. After fast delivery for the first time stood on the updates, which I looked forward to a bit critical. The installation of a small program has happened quickly, then this controls but unlike Garmin further update process via the TomTom website. The Notified download process should take 2 hours, which is normal for the size of the update file. The subsequent transmission stopped after a while and then stopped. I was already close to despair and made it just once a reload of the TomTom website. Then the transmission went normally until the same thing happened again. Reload again. This was repeated again until the updates were partly filled properly. Nevertheless, much better than with the problems with Garmin. Next hurdle: The pairing with your smartphone. In my case, a common Samsung Galaxy S5. The pairing worked but otherwise nothing happened. Again pure desperation. A look at the TomTom website showed me a landline number support. So let's call shortly. No wait, just a strange ring tone brought me the knowledge to be now connected to some distant low-wage country. The poor German language of the opponent confirmed that first impression. However, this turned out to meet many German (and certainly not particularly well-paid Hotline staff) were very friendly, patient and knowledgeable. So the fault of non-activated Bluetooth tethering was discovered very quickly and the pairing was perfect. So the Navi has now demonstrated its practicality: The suction cup holds bombproof, the TMC-cable is integrated in the power cable, which is plugged into the Navigation mount. Another advantage: The Navi can be easily removed from the magnetic holder and is then connected without additional wiring. The new operating concept is unfamiliar and a bit strange, but after a short time very beneficial: Man can easily zoom to its destination and save with a tap of this as a tourist destination. But the entry is possible as usual directly from a keyboard. Zooming on the card goes to the great capacitive display here quickly and without stutter so I prefer this at least for me locally known destinations. Right of the screen are of arrival, remaining kilometers, petrol stations, any jams and other events, as well as the current time is displayed, this bar can be customized to a certain frame to your needs. The navigation works perfectly. Particularly noticed me the extremely fast screen and the super-fast recalculation if you want to confuse even the device by deviating from the pre-calculated route driving ... ;-) Had I already mentioned the pairing with my smartphone? This automatically posts now every time you turn the Navi, and show me the connection to the TomTom Services briefly as an overlay. Everyone has already made experience with pretty unreliable TMC traffic reports, so I've never been given much it. So also was skeptical at first, when one evening the Navi has a traffic jam on my regular route appears that I really know the ins and outs and on, at least at the point indicated by the Navi, NEVER, NEVER, NEVER has been jam , So I ignored the warning and went as usual to my route. When I came into the vicinity of the displayed congestion I saw from a distance: There's really jam. The Navi had however already several times will calculate a new route and led me now before the traffic jam on a different road and just before the end of the congestion back to the road in question. And that on a track that I would even so never drove with my knowledge as a native in life. RESPECT! Overall, the unit of mine gets the full 5-star score. The only drawback in my opinion is something strongly reflective display. By the way: You can operate the device with the voice. But I personally do not like to talk with technical equipment .... ;-)
