"Prism" begins with the hit single "Roar", which is out of the question so many weeks away from the radio. A perfect, entertaining catchy brand of Katy Perry. Lyrically and musically without big surprises, but again with a lot of melody and recognition: Perry at her best. This is followed by the somewhat exotic but also catchy 'Legendary Lovers "and the lyrical hideous" Birthday ". 2 flat pop songs, which once more to Katy number is safe. "Walking On Air" is then a bit special, a little getting used to autotune and a Euro-dance beat accompany the song, while "Unconditionally" a meaningless track remains, which one might have after a short time already forgotten.
Then comes the album highlight, "Dark Horse" Katy Perry has teamed up with Juicy J together to finally from its "feel-good Tralala Cage" break. A really good beat, a fabulous Juicy J and a courageous for their relationships Katy Perry combine an outstanding chorus with hip-hop influences and Perrys not verwechselndem feeling for a great ear candy. Really great, finally you recognize something like a further development at Katy Perry.
"This Is How We Do" then sounds a bit like 80s retro pop, amusing and quite nice, but not a masterpiece. "This is no big deal," she tells us again and again in the song. Because she's right.
"International Smile" sounds of his musicality like a cheap rip-off of "California Girls". What is this please?
Perry is always best when she sings a song faster. Probably me, therefore not really like "Ghost". Her voice is simply not good enough shape to a slower track. If then even a somewhat bad beat comes to like here, the disaster for me is already done. For "Love Me" I could use the same words again, which I now but save me time.
"This Moment", although also rather slow, then become much more interesting. Interestingly Beat, a ballad chorus, catchy and beautiful.
Instead then the pace to raise again, which is urgently needed, comes with "Double Rainbow" but a dreamy song, in which, unfortunately, can not distract from the harrowing text. "By The Grace Of God" is then the next meaningless Katy Perry ballad. Slowly, it is hoped that the album ends. Slowly sung lines, then a chorus full of pathos. Attracts apparently like a red thread through the whole album.
"Spiritual" is then another song that you MUST to go through until you get to hear a tolerable track with "It Takes Two" again. But more than bearable it is unfortunately not. At the end of the album is "Choose Your Battles", which also can not really stand out positively from the previous songs themselves.
Conclusion:
With "Roar" the album starts with a battle cry, stating that the Perry will play to their strengths throughout. Unfortunately, this battle cry then lose at the latest on "Choose Your Battles". When she sings "I`m not fighting anymore" it is clear that the tiger of "Roar" on album length is pretty toothless.
In front of us a rather dreamy pop record is without artistic value. That was to be expected, but Katy seems to use its "feel-good songs" only sparsely in order to attract the masses. After all, we get with "Dark Horse" and "Roar" delivered two right Pops. The rest does not need a man.
