A) Design & Processing
-------------------------
The first thing a while in-the-hand-company of the Galaxy Tab S stands out: It is only about 6.6 mm very thin even thinner than many smartphones and also pretty easy (about 465 g), which the wrists noticeably less strain with prolonged use, as is the case with other models. By the feel of the Samsung typical plastic housing of very good first impression is indeed a little tarnished, but at this point no quantum leaps were to be expected. It remains true to his previous Samsung. The same applies to the processing (again) is not outstanding, but OK.
B) Performance & Operating System
-----------------------------
Is powered by an Exynos 5 tablet Octa 5420 processor (consisting of a 1.9-GHz quad-core and another 1.3 GHz quad-core), which provides for a strong engine. The memory is 3 GB and the internal 16 GB memory can be thanks to microSD slot if necessary up to 128 GB top up (as had the card does not, however, be used as a storage space for apps). The operating system is Android 4.4 Kitkat is on board. All in all, provides the Tab S a very good performance, which allows a continuous liquid operation. : Surfing, movies, games, etc. everything is running smoothly and is fun. Delays or stutterers are very rare, which is then also likely to question the software and not the hardware, in my perception, however.
C) Display & Battery
------------------
The Super AMOLED screen with a resolution of 2560 x 1600 pixels makes an excellent impression. Sharpness, color representation and contrast values are the (LCD) competitive superior in many areas especially nice I personally feel that black on this screen is actually black (and not dark gray). Overall, the Tab S is probably the best display of all previously released Tablets exhibit me personally in any case still nothing better met, even though I had been testing various other current models in parallel for comparison. The built-in 10.5-inch model has a battery (the display size appropriate) capacity of 7900 mAh. So far, the power cell lasts me with heavy use over 2 days with moderate usage are certainly 4 and more days there. Overall I would say that the term is in the customary tablet framework and help me until now compared to the Tab 3 definitely not misbehaving.
D) Operation & Features
------------------------
When UI is again Samsung's more or less proven TouchWiz interface on board that actually works as usual with no major surprises. Unfortunately, quite a few (sometimes more, sometimes less useful) programs and apps are preinstalled and this time, the first call at the beginning a little decluttering on the home screen, which I found a bit annoying. I myself could also do without features such as the Gear Fit connectivity that WatchON-remote App or the fingerprint scanner. But who has fun at such shenanigans, gets here much good stuff on offer. Of course, useful features are such as SideSync to synchronize the smartphone and the multi-window function for parallel doing multiple tasks (though the latter is not compatible with all apps). Personally, I would have found quite nice if the Tab S would also supports pen input, but this is unfortunately not the case and probably this feature need not too many users.
E) Other facilities
------------------------
For photography and filming (even in Full HD) Samsung has installed on the back of Tab S a 8-megapixel camera, which now provides good to very results (in Table 3, I was not quite satisfied with the picture quality was perhaps but also primarily the poorer display of its predecessor). On the front there is also a camera with 2.1 megapixels. The sound is output from stereo speakers and is overall okay here should not expect miracles and connect as usual headphones in doubt tablet users. In addition to a headphone connection required for this are available at the Table S also has a micro-USB port, and an infrared port. Wireless internet is of course also there (LTE in this model, however, does not).
Conclusion:
-------
When the amount of tablets that Samsung brings to market, it is not always easy to keep track. With the Galaxy Tab S, a device is now available, which will surely attract the attention because of its excellent Super AMOLED displays again more on himself than some of the previous models. The performance is top, the processing on the other hand just OK. Also just OK I think the price: 500 euros for the 10.5-inch version without LTE are also available for this top product at the end but something much more. Together with my view about overloaded preinstalled software / app package and with each tablet generation ever-increasing flood of features whose concrete benefits often is not entirely clear and the overview but a bit more difficult, I admit a total of 4 out of 5 stars. For those who do not interfere with the price, this is short to be seen as strong buy recommendation.
