I have the Galaxy S4 mini duo now excited a few days and am. It is fully consistent with my expectations:
- The size of the device is just so that you can very easily use it with one hand (but I have relatively large hands). The "normal" S4 would be already too great to me.
- Super thin and light
- Of course there will be people who before the "cheap plastic" turn up their noses. But I feel the quality of plastic used all rather than heavy glass that continually fragmented. Visually, it is generally one of the most beautiful devices (which can be disputed splendidly on taste).
- The processing is very solid
- The most important: dual SIM works really well - but that was already the old S Duos way. It is also accessible by two cards (eg Internet with a card and the phone with the other).
- Important: it needed two micro-SIM card. All newer SIM card should not be a problem. Old maps have to ev. Trim with a sharp knife or scissors. Was not a problem with me.
- During a brief test, it turned out that UMTS / 3G apparently works from the first SIM slot. Is obviously unfortunately many dual SIM devices usual, you should still know beforehand. Some network operators do so exclusively on 3G cards. If you want to use two of them, one has obviously unlucky. Generally going traffic (regardless of whether lame 2G or 3G) only from a SIM simultaneously. For my purposes, both findings were previously irrelevant, wherefore it is not a limitation for me.
- With the old S Duos SIM card slots were a little better arranged. When S4 mini duo must be removed for a map of the battery. Not really bad, because you have to turn off the power for the SIM card exchange anyway. Still a bit awkward.
- Processor and memory have been sufficiently specified. The unit always reacts pleasantly fast.
The initial euphoria was a bit too exaggerated. Some CPU-intense games every few minutes is a "trailer" of 1 - 2 seconds. During this time it jerky very strong and the touch screen responds not delayed until strong. After the 1-2 seconds ALL out striving running again normally. A reason for this behavior I have not been able to find. In "normal mode" (ie normal apps) the problem is not noticeable.
- Thanks to major internal SD card to install many apps is not a problem.
- The AMOLED used is a matter of taste: I find it extremely enjoyable. The image quality is absolutely top for me. Apparently, there are people who notice the slight blue tinge. Although the old S Duos with LCD had brighter colors - but that seemed somehow unnatural and usually much too garish. I for one feel that the AMOLED S4 mini duo far more pleasant.
despite strong reflective glass, the display is still relatively easy to read even in daylight at the highest light level. It seems to me that the AMOLED generally to ambient light reacts better than LCDs.
- The touchscreen responds very precisely. With the old S Duos I had there and back problems
- Samsung typically comes again a customized version of Android for use. On the one hand an advantage: I have become so used to the Samsung Apps, which are in some cases dramatically better than the standard Android apps that I will never miss more. Interestingly, Samsung holds the S4 mini duo with bloatware back. For example, while the S Duos bristled with completely reasonable freed Software only so, corresponding Apps hold on the S4 mini duo in limits. The downside is that the probability of ever getting on the S4 mini duo a newer version of Android than just plan (4.2.2) is virtually nil. Samsung has always have been so, "shined", not to allow its devices very sparse to get updates.
- I was pretty impressed with the GPS: as soon as I have seen no device detect a fairly precise signal. Already just after activating the GPS I have found almost 10 satellites and has an accuracy of just 4 meters. Compared to the very old Galaxy S with practically unusable GPS and the S Duos with usable GPS the S4 mini duo is absolutely top. However, I can not say whether it also extends to the Geo-Caching - I have not tried it yet.
- Which is a disadvantage for me: an easy way to root the device I have not yet found. But comes perhaps.
All in all, the S4 mini duo a really good smartphone and highly recommended.
- The battery life is not great, for smartphone standards but OK. In sparse use and deactivated WLAN, Bluetooth, UMTS etc, and in the power saving mode, the device just 2 stops - by 2.5 days. All my previous smartphones were there slightly worse.
aside from all nice frills drop a few features still pleasant on:
- The device has an infrared transmitter and an app that lets you can control most IR-controlled devices. Although the app has a few quirks, but is well suited as an emergency replacement remote.
- Which I personally liked a lot: you have lying around the device somewhere and missed a call / SMS, and then picks it up, it will vibrate briefly. So you know when picked up immediately if you missed something or not. Is a pretty smart solution and probably consumes less power than a permanent light display
Apparently Samsung has solved the problems with the dual SIM operation. For a time, the unit has started very often new to the simultaneous operation of both SIM cards. Since the last update, the device runs the same way as you would expect to. 'm Back fully satisfied with the device and it gets full marks again.
