The MKE 400 fully meets my expectations:
It is small and therefore does not break the handy dimension of the camcorder.
With its metal body and rubber suspension is built stable and robust.
The sound quality is good and the directivity pronounced clearly.
The tones in addition and above all behind the camera are much more subdued. That's how it should be.
The sensitivity can be increased by a switch, which actually leads to louder recordings quieter tones, however, the camera sounds are characterized simultaneously louder audible.
A switchable Low Cut filter to reduce wind noise, which of course only works with light breezes. On windy days, you should rather take a cat fur.
That the microphone is mono, for me is not a disadvantage, but rather logical. Yes I want a directional microphone, so that the VA can be heard, which can be seen also in the picture, so sounds from the front. A stereo microphone has indeed the property to capture a Rundumton from the left and rightmost sources.
The stereo jack of the MKE 400 therefore has the advantage that the mono signal is applied to 2 channels, thus eliminates the annoying double the mono track in the post.
At halfway existing physical knowledge (sideswipe at the 1st reviewers) of course you can not expect miracles, that such a small directional microphone is highly sensitive one hand, on the other hand mitaufnimmt no noise. If you really want, you have to give the microphone completely decouple from the camera and either mounted on a boom or equal to work with a boom pole.
