First, I must say that I have Vegas now run through about half in single player. MP I have not tried it yet, because it comes to me in the first place on a thrilling SP experience with crackling high tension.
I also feel torn:
GRAPHICS:
Significantly improved over Rainbow Six Ravenshield. (Lockdown does not count for me) but arises partly really the question of whether the performance is not really still could improve. I play with a GeForce 6800GT at 1024x768 with no special effects ... and it jerky partially still!
SOUND:
Is awesome! Since a couple of soundtracks are who it real in itself. Especially Ubisoft has also found after gaffe "Lockdown" back to a dramatic and very atmospheric music back.
ANIMATIONS:
Class! See my comrades in their movements so real from that I alone have the Watching sometimes gives the feeling of being part of a real elite teams. The motion capture is really succeeded!
TAKE COVER:
The control of my own player is really great success. The idea that I can take behind or next to almost all objects (walls, counters, etc.) coverage, was a very good decision. In Gegensatzu some other critics, I find also good that the prospect then fluently changed to an observer's perspective. While this is a little unrealistic, because you can see opponents that are usually outside of my visual field, but it allows a good tactical overview! Is very good that this annoying that sit around the corner of the previous versions has been dropped. Flowing movements were thus not possible and I'm always remained hanging only in the most inopportune moments on the door frame. Vegas has the much better resolved.
Artificial Intelligence (AI):
The has also improved significantly. Both on the side of the opponents as well as within my team.
Scripting:
Here there is the first headache with me! I'm not a big fan of scripted scenes, and Vegas shows me once again most clearly why: Basically, I do not really affect how the tactical situation develops. If the game has it that I can think of 3 Tangos in the back, then the me fall even in the back, no matter how tactically I proceeded previously. On top of that, it is really annoying when you have to repeat the same place a few times. Always the same and almost no chance to consider an entirely new approach in the plan next time. The cost extremely much fun with me !!!
STEALTH:
In the fan community, opinions are divided so, whether accessing an elite Geiselbefreiuungseinheit Stealth plays a role or not. In any case I clearly miss the opportunity to hold through the use of silencers and cautious approach my presence until the liberation of the hostages secret.
TACTICS:
And at this point, then bundles all my criticism of Rainbow Six Vegas. Were the old Rainbow Six games (again except lockdown) extremely tactical (operational planning, several teams, etc.), so the tactic is eliminated in this game because of scripting, hordes of opponents and a resulting SIGNIFICANT arcade shooter feel. The paths are mostly defined linear and thus fixed. Each "level" it is necessary to eliminate hundreds of tangos, which Rainbow Six from a tactical shooter degenerates into a mass slaughter.
The old feeling of extreme tension, whether the corner is a tango and if I can eliminate those unnoticed by the other is completely gone. Worst of all, however, the hostage situations in Vegas: As soon as I reached the door to the room hostage, I have about another minute to storm around the room, because otherwise the hostages "by chance" are just shot. The last bit of tactics and consideration before access is thus made permanently destroyed.
CONCLUSION:
For all these reasons, Vegas is an experience that was ready at the beginning of many "aaahs" and "Oooohs" for me for me. But at the latest after the third scene, where apart from a new environment EVER Nothing changed and I had virtually no opportunity to bring through planning and tactics new stimulus in a situation made me the game less and less fun.
It attracts me, although every now and then for an hour to the slaughter "Rainbow Six Vegas", which was also quite very well staged. But the good old days of the past, where I sat for hours on a single hostage rescue situation and looked for the optimal tactics are over. Also was a tense atmosphere in which there is a firefight unprepared ever again, replaced by a steady flow of enemies.
That's why I can not better rate this game despite some brilliant features.
Ps:
Incidentally, I do not understand quite why UBI has decided to to replace the main characters (Clark and Chavez), to which a huge Clancy fan base has indeed built a very strong emotional bond with a brand new faceless team.
