Rarely, the fans were so united as with this album for a new production: A milestone in Udo Jürgens' career. Udo has the best album put down for many, many years - for me it is by far the best album of the new century. On the CD you will find almost no "fill-Lieder", one hears an incredible number of really strong songs that make really feel like a live implementation - I'm really looking forward to the 2012 tour.
The songs are all varied compositions in pleasing, sometimes very strong arrangements. The only "downside" is the mix of the drums. I was credibly happened that the drums have been recorded "live" - (!) After my subjective perception, the sound sounds when we were dealing with a drum computer. Just the name Peter Lübke guarantees drums Quality; insofar as it is inexplicable to me why the drums "somehow by Roland Kaiser" sounds - but that's like saying my very subjective perception; there are certainly fans who see things differently.
I feel in my youth back to: At that time there were albums, which I knew from the first hearing that the songs will accompany me for a lifetime, because they are so great - these albums of the 80s provide for me the highlight of Udo's work is - and finally Udo has been linked to these albums again.
The last albums ("Long live the vice", "now or never" and especially "Simply I") were indeed "general" still at a high level - but no longer the trend for Udos conditions. The situation is different with this album: Udo creates a musically and content great tension, perfect arrangements - Fan Heart what you want more? :-) - To the songs in detail:
Of ordinary Madness
The song is the title song of the CD deal. He gave me good transport already during the solo tour. Although the drum mix and the staccato rhythm guitars disturb something that studio recording is better managed than expected - the brass interjections in the pauses of the verse are crisp. The "pedal" in the chorus play of strings allow and at all tired of strings to use in the song, in this going forward piece is a brilliant idea in my opinion. Even the background choir is mixed right. The icing on the cake is an ingenious string interlude after which sounded the hit-compatible title again right "turning up". That the song with his unusual musical key changes is a blast, I've found it did last year. Given that the title shall be written some time ago, he lyrically a frightening topicality. Thumbs up! (Side note: Too bad that the title has not been published as A-side single - perhaps he had more otherwise broadcast inserts get).
Love lives
This "woman song" Like the generous Instrumentation: There are almost symphonic sounds audible. I can already see in the mind's eye how Pepe elicits the flute sounds lovely. The text fits seamlessly in the range of typical Udo-love songs. For me the song is not sooooo big hit - but it can also simply be because I see it from a male perspective ;-). The chorus reminds me the way, in the melody a little to the Udo-classic "Fly, Flamingo".
When a song so wär` like you
For me, this title is again a real highlight, a jazzy song, with its production me again disturb the eternally sounding guitar, but the strings inspire exactly. The song begins with a string of interesting intro in the style of a Christmas song ("White Christmas"), and then with a groove of the brand of Udo classic "None was like you" thus come. I especially like the solos in the piece (saxophone, then big band objections). The text-idea appeals to me very much of - the characteristics of a song where a loved one gegenüberzustellen- that's a good idea that Udo has musically great. As so often, Udo leaves here the usual verse-chorus-end, creating in my mind a little musical masterpiece. Particularly it did to me the conclusion of Opus` - after the song seems echo a, Udo turns finally again right on - great cinema!
For that I need you
This song was supposed to still be pressed on the Christmas CD;) ... - No, here is a classic love song that lyrically to me "why I stand to you" and "How could I leave you" recalls. The idea to have only heard a female background choir to make it sound the refrain "significant", Udo had at "Again and again the sun rises" - here the account of this idea goes on. We are again dealing with a beautiful string-heavy arrangements. That Udo song at "Wetten, dass ..." has interpreted live, I find indeed great - but I find it a pity that he has not chosen another piece for Gottschalk - for example:
You are looking through
To me here the textual idea takes some getting awesome "You're seen through" - because I have predicts that the "You are caught" within the meaning of is meant. But this is not so - this is about the disadvantages of modern technology when the "world a Google" is where the home is filmed and one can publish his beautiful "Liver function tests in Facebook". In the song Udo is critical to the Internet apart - recently it seems there indeed given its book-entry on its fan page every now and "frolicking" again - that makes the song even more credible. If Udo now still cares to make its own internet presence in terms of dealing with criticism professional, then ... - but that's another topic. Musically I find the groove a la "Each as he likes" on - and the fact that Udo invited to sing along: "laaa laaa laaa laaa .." - that leads to the suspicion that there is selected as the last song before the intermission could be. Thankfully would Udo himself never "google" - otherwise he would still probably come across this review and probably about my vision of the drum mix -but also fret that's another topic ....
The woman I never met
It is meant positively when I again strings highlighting that very clearly also be used in this song. This song is the critics of my favorite songs from "Just me," namely "Last exit to love" conciliatory voices: The content is in a similar direction, but the implementation has been far more romantic than this opus. Udo interpreted another love song, in which the desire is in the foreground.
Everything is so easy
This title is again by one of Udo's witty songs. Even if the quality of "Merry Christmas Everyone" is not quite here, I like Udo's commitment to the German language (Reinhard Mey song "M (e) y English Song" is also slightly related thereto). I also as SIDO and Buschido fan am (caution irony!), Of course, delighted that now finally Udo raps. - Again I am struck by the pleasing background vocals. The text is in view Udos new official internet presence ("News", "Community" etc. - place is crawling with Anglicisms) hardly credible - so I think it's amazing that he is called just here as co-lyricist. October Wind
Who loved the last album, "The Last Song", will adore the "October Wind" - I repeat: The string arrangements on this CD are really great - such a string-heavy CD I've never heard of Udo. I quote again Reinhard Mey: "A piece of music made by hand" - the poetic words ("a few stray dogs before the lanterns - last sunbeams lure out the door ..") stand out from the pop monotony significantly. Although it is a typical women's song again, I like this song about Udo in "autumn of his life" very well.
Give me a dream
This song is for me next to "When a song so wär` like you" the highlight of the CD: Whenever Udo the "swingers club" membership, bombastic great songs come out since (from my subjective point of view) - "Ladies and Gentlemen "," Thanks for the evening "," champagne raining from the sky "," Give me one hour "- all these blast are among my favorite songs. Give me a dream "fits seamlessly: The typical swing rhythm that wind, to even the idea that there are the dreamers, change the world - heart what you want more .... - I catch myself here that I think is great indeed interesting and the strings - but thrilled the big band sound in the style of Pepe Lienhard me up a notch more.
On this song you can find out how important the Arranger at a CD-production: The contained in a special-edition "Berlin Mix" makes the song a very good song - but in the "New York" version is song for me tutoring at all Roger Cicero in the world - only the sensational intro I find world class. Again excite here the great big band and then saxophone improvisations. It is rare that even the studio recording is so strong that one wonders how the Udo live still "beat" will .. - but how do I know Udo and the Pepe Lienhard-orchestra, the song is also " live "a sensation ...
Let a little love there
Finally - the long-awaited German version of "Leave a little love" ... - No, joking aside: The song maybe I do not understand as a man - after you are listening to highlight it can not win me - moment I can with the Song start anything yet. It would be better to "I Just" fitted with all due respect, in my view - ahem ... After all: The organ intro music is quite interesting.
Against the wind
"Do as you like -. Are not like all If you want to stand out, you're going against the wind" ... - Hammer !!! The textual statement is sooo great - I do not want Nachtreten -but sorry - you can not live sometimes what you propagated in texts? ("Small Insider") - But I do not want to digress: This song is an absolute highlight. The idea that one should be guided by his beliefs and preferences and passion should be taken instead of calculus is, in my view, although unbeatable well implemented in "Everything is good" for me - but "Against the Wind" is sooooo close Ran to this total highlight. Again wind, again horny background choir -schon again: This impassioned plea for individuality of individuals leads to rest loose enthusiasm on my part ... As early as the sixties Udo was the "singer with long i" - nice that Udo revive this tradition here leaves. My favorite line of text is the way: "Just as Icarus was, he dared all - and then he came too close to the light, but he was in the sun - and not others."
Good journey through life
This song has for me a very personal "goosebumps" factor - my daughter is almost two years old - and what Udo gives his grandson on the way, I also wish my daughter. I'm sure my father would give his granddaughter similar requests on the way, when he was still alive - but that's why I love this song and to take Udo concert precaution a pack Tempo tissues with. The song can be compared with almost one of my favorite songs - but "My greatest wish" still a small trace of emotional (for me personally). Musically I like that though kept simple, but just so beautiful melancholic piano solo.
My first path
"That I may live to see": For many years Udo takes his classics into new versions. Very often does that clearly failed - for example, Udo has his hit "17 years, blonde hair" in 1972 re-recorded for Ariola to make the song for the Ariola accessible - the original photograph was taken for the record company "Vogue" - and those rights had apparently not Ariola (-is at least claimed). Udo Jürgens has said in interviews again and again that it is precisely this 1972 recording itself does not like (no wonder his live versions are always similar to the original version from 1965) - yet it is again and again re-coupled - last on his "Best Of" CD. Other admissions of hits (especially "Paris - just like that just for fun") may be designated, in my view as little succeeded.
More gratifying is this raising of a new published in collaboration with Suzanne Doucet songs from Udo's first LP for Ariola - the jazz elements are unmistakable (alone of scat singing in the intro is awesome). Interesting are z. B. the "stuffed" trumpet and again the strings and the (cash) piano sound. But I particularly like the hyped Flute (I am looking forward to the live version - probably with Pepe Lienhard). Especially excites me the instrumental solo (especially the saxophone part). Again one must only wish that Udo continues excavates such beads or us fans, at least with the re-release of never released on CD songs (in original (!!!) - Version) as "I believe", "game Zigan", " Music was my first love "or especially" Peace Now "happy .. - When I say" My first way "Listen, I know about like how" Peace Now "(perhaps" Egypt- "or" Libya-Mix " ?) would sound?
On the shore
The CD ends with a very pathetic song that must sound natural again symphonic - with high probability is that song, press the end of the concert on the heartstrings. Although the song certainly like - "I'll leave you all there", "A fool says thank you" or "The Big Goodbye" are here not to beat me.
Conclusion: I do not know when an album has so "packed" me from the first impression - this is due to a long time ago. It is as described at something like a "deja vu" from the 80s: As my enthusiasm was the last time the size of an entire album - although "I'll be there" and partially "Long live the vice" I certainly also very good have fallen.
Especially for Udo fans and just UDO "beginners" who thought the zenith of his creative work is (at least what the CD productions terms) exceeded - applies: Here Udo has finally once again put down a masterpiece!
