the "Split Rock" are great Timberland typical light hiking shoes that can be worn relatively universally due to the design, especially in the cold season, not too chunky but still robust, pleasantly warm, even cozy, yet breathable .... really great to wear! The multi-commented non sensitive sole is a minor drawback, but it's probably too much designed towards walking and less towards winter shoe ... in shoe soles is a similar "balancing act" as in car tires (summer, winter or all-season) that should also cover a certain area depending on temperature and wetness, which you have chosen a good compromise at the Split Rock sole, because sometimes described as bad as here the slip sensitivity is not and does in everyday life (Winter in Berlin with cold and wet weather) hardly noticeable ... but minimal slippery than the chill mountain winter boots that are completely designed for snow and ice. If this were possible, I might pull a quarter star for the sole, more point deduction but does not justify it! Qualitatively make the Split Rocks overall a very good impression on me ... wear them but now only since 2 weeks ... will, if necessary, replacement delivery long-term experience. Important ordering the right size, the Split Rocks fall from rather small, so order a size up definitely. Very pleasant I find the height above the ankle ... just high enough to distinguish themselves from a shoe, yet not so high that it limits the agility for example when sitting and therefore is uncomfortable. When I paint the "medium brown" selected as leather, can best maintain and hopefully relatively long look good, what variants with nubuck may be more difficult for the (especially lighter).
Conclusion: For me, the Split Rock the perfect winter shoe, if it does not have to go too elegant.
