Apple iPad 1 32GB (Web Tablet, 1Ghz, Wifi, Bluetooth) (Personal Computers)

Customer Review

I have received the iPad last week about the work. Well, a week rich experience. I will make the device well a colleague available.

First the positives:
- It is very visually appealing, fits comfortably in your hand. With the appropriate envelope it is also very easy to transport.

Well, and now the reasons for disclosure:

Crummy wireless receiver: I have both at home, as well as to work with the device hardly to no reception in places where it still loose enough for the netbook, and even with the HTC Desire (with the much smaller antenna) still a usable signal receives.

For iOS: Sorry, maybe I'm spoiled, but of a reasonable system, I expect that it will help me and not permanent displays, which is not possible.
As a pure Linux users did not allow me to activate the device when you first start. Apple requires iTunes here, which unfortunately exists only for Windows and MacOS. Under Wine (for all Linux users), the latest version lies not install unfortunately. I finally had to activate the device from a colleague.

The installed applications run smoothly and can be, as I'm used to from a device with touch screen, operate also quite intuitive. Very sad is the scope of the pre-installed applications. The unit is primarily the comfortable Chaten and reading. As I would have expected at least a corresponding Reader for PDF and other open formats is installed. Unfortunately, this was not like that. So install app: First, this an Apple account must be created. Since my credit card number was required. After sufficient experience of the last few weeks and months with Facebook, StudiVZ I initially waived. After registering, apps can quite easily install. The problem: After I have not provided any credit card unfortunately were my only free apps available. The ratings for the various PDF Reader already hinted that their quality is not outstanding.

Nevertheless, I have about 10 free PDF Reader Apps installed. As iPad Dau I played also still the same 1 PDF file of my choice via USB on the iPad. Unfortunately, I could access the file with any of the programs. Obviously, each of the apps is locked in a kind of sandbox. In and goes just about brought by the Apps tools. Well, and there are so few. Each app comes with its own file explorer. Some additionally a simple web browser. At first glance, the apps are different even visually all, which is not really nice.

Another shortcoming is the lack of true multitasking. If you close an app, because you want to fix what start the Web browser, for example, then the app will obviously start from scratch the next time. In the case of the tested apps from me had every time a display about 3 seconds the manufacturer's logo to follow ...

To synchronize with the PC I need often separate programs, which are of course only for Windows or Mac. So also does not go.
Synchronizing via the cloud? That may go with a few small files yet. I imagine the terrible but intend to push my video from the PC via DSL upload to the cloud and then downloading it to the iPad from there. Sorry, but that is anything but user friendly. I was open-minded about the iPad pretty and had me worried to have it with the aim of a versatile eBook Readers. I manage to not even make sense to get files on that thing. It is still not time to applications. Somehow I can not understand why you have to suffer so many restrictions on a 700 machine. My Desire worked out-of-the-box. It is all. The operating concept is not really different.

My conclusion: iPad goes away (luckily I have the opportunity). I'm going to again look at the Galaxy Tab. With Android, I know that I funzt it.

apple: Oh yes, at first failed wireless application unfortunately also showed the very first bug. A back button was missing, so I had to close the Settings Manager completely and start again. So what's crap!
