I have long enough to deliver a final opinion this device now - and will have my vote to correct a star upwards. I remain, of course, in everything that has been said below; However, after I now use digital cable, and many other TV models have compared with this TV, I just have to give that extra star for the wonderful picture quality. The TV picture is on the superb public transport: sharper than any and all other TVs that I looked at in more detail since then - even in SD sharper and cleaner (no "frayed" corners) than on an almost twice as expensive "luxury" LED before I stand today, and of the first HD (ie a really better image source!) was fed! As you notice then but in that a high-end product with the Samsung gets to Schäppchenpreis, therefore: 4 stars.
ORIGINAL REVIEW:
The most important thing has already been said about this TV set, here are the most important in my view points:
+ Superb workmanship and design
+ Versatile Connectivity (incl. Optical Audio Out to TV to transmit sound directly to a surround system)
+ Easy to use menu
+ Extremely high variety of settings (color space itself fully adjustable)
+ Great colors when calibrated correctly (the defaults are terrible)
+ Overscan can be completely shut off (important for gamers)
+ Great black levels when the situation permits (see below)
+ Low power consumption
+ Firmware can be updated via USB
Unfortunately, the device also has its weaknesses:
- The panel suffers from a lack of uniformity (aka "Clouding" or "backlight bleeding"), what the "flashlight effect", in conjunction with the Edge LED (mine is in dark scenes in the lower right corner of a cone of light of the backlight visible the incoming radiated into the picture, which is quite annoying)
- Auto Dimming Problem 1: The most amazing black levels are produced by Auto Dimming the backlight is so shut in dark scenes, resulting in partly extremely strong contrast losses (Example: White text in an otherwise dark scene is displayed only very pale)
- Auto Dimming Issue 2: These brightness variations are indeed most subtle, every now and then, however, also clearly visible, which is very unnatural acts (Ex: for a panning shot of a bright to a dark scene suddenly the brightness of all visible objects drops, including for example a street lamp)
- The sound is not great, seems rather tinny. Best connect for movies and games to a surround system. And in between, television or news but look absolutely okay.
- The remote control is a little fiddly to use, and much too large failed
- The mirroring of the display is indeed smart, but can interfere in bright environments
I had as yet no way to watch a movie in HD, since I do not own a Blu-ray player. But what I can say: Anyone who has a current game console such as the X360 or PS3, which is this TV really! The picture here is fantastic (sharp, great contrast, no artifacts or ghosting). There is also a special "Game Mode", in which the auto dimming is disabled and the response time is improved.
Conclusion:
Do not interfere with Wen the disadvantages that brings the cheaper Edge LED technology with them (no local dimming, lack uniformity end of the backlight), who gets with this TV set a lot for your money! For a comparable device with LED local dimming one would currently almost twice as much to spend. That here a compromise in terms of price / performance makes, however, one should keep in mind!
