I bought this because of the really easy handling: My focus is therefore clearly on "PNP".
Plugging, wait a few seconds and let's go. At least this is true for Windows systems, there I would give good 4 stars. One star deduction would be there only for the band waste (Others are already here have written about it, so I will spare me details)
Of course, I am angry about the very lack of Linux and BSD support: to get this device to run on Linux systems is really a pain, BSD (PC-BSD) is me not succeeded. Since Dymo does not advertise in this device that supports these operating systems I knew that beforehand. Therefore, this does not go with a major shortcoming in the review. I would like to mention it yet, if others are planning this application: BSD / Linux, the device is, unfortunately, unsuitable.
Under Mac OS X Maverics only the strip comes out, without (!) Imprint, if you use the software that comes preinstalled on the Label Manager PNP. The hardware is proven perfectly fine, since the same device, for example, works fine on Windows7.
The workaround for Mac: There is a software "Dymo" that can be downloaded and installed by the manufacturer: For the label printer then also works under Mac OS X 10.9. My problem with this is nothing more PNP!
Does not affect the rating of the product, but important to know: This software "Dymo" do not like. Why the hell would they want to read my contacts? Why phone this home? I just want to print labels!
Unfortunately I have not found a way aufzuspielen newer software on the Dymo Label Manager PNP, although this is a firmware update actually should be possible without any problems: That seems not to be. This too is in my eyes a shortcoming, which is incorporated into the assessment: Missing product maintenance.
Conclusion When the device under Mac OS X is planning to use from 10.9: Dymo advertises PNP, the product can not keep that promise. In my opinion, this is a severe shortage, so there are a total of only one star from me.
In the hope that also Dymo now and then looks in here, these words are for you:
Hey you've assembled a really great product, and I mean really true. I really love simple, functional units, the "easy" work. And I would only work with Windows, I'd be very happy, this could be such a lovely unit.
Meanwhile, many people no longer work with systems from Redmond, and even the OS holds 14 years of more, but often only 8-12 months, then the update comes to the next (and often better) version.
I am by no means as a customer willing to buy me new equipment, just because the old equipment no longer work with the new operating systems as they should. It is no longer sufficient to build only good hardware just when the software can not keep the advertising promises. And if the alternative software then phoned home I seriously wonder whether I would like to buy a product from you: broken advertising promises, spying. I say in the future therefore prefer "Thanks, but no" Dymo. Too bad.
