I had this steamer selected because the bowls BPA shall be free. If that's true with the serial number (under the appliance, black stamped on black), I have received such a device. The device itself looks good and stable enough. Opening pour water also easily accessible. The beiligende manual is absolutely unsatisfactory. It lacks explanatory statement to the function keys. But more on that later. Even the included recipe book has not much to offer. And on the Internet, it is extremely difficult to find another, suitable recipes for this Garer. And the available cookbooks about "steaming" Sorry either reviewed here as bad or are not suitable for table-top units. Thus we read: try yourself. The first attempt with salmon fillets and spinach went well. I put the steamer for the fish feature (15 minutes) and then gave the spinach in another basket, as about 8 minutes cooking time were left. Both I had lightly seasoned. The fish was cooked to perfection and the Battspinat well. Thus, I have been very satisfied. Today it is the big disappointment: I wanted to cook rice. In the manual I found this no information! While there is a rice cooking button (40 minutes Cooking), but no further explanations how exactly is cooked rice. So clear was that the rice should be cooked in the XL-use 40 minutes. How much rice and water you need is to specify irgends. Fortunately, I found in the FAQs on the Philips-page then the required information. One should take double the amount of water for rice. Said and done. So given 1 cup of rice with 2 cups of water into the container and rice pressed button. Shortly before the end I was then saithe and even 2 tomatoes in the other bowls. After 40 minutes, then the verherende result: it had done nothing. The rice grains blurred still completely in the water! Ok, so again set 40 minutes. Am still new to the steaming. As part of trying to do so. And after this a further 40 minutes no change still! This game I repeated then a third time, and I then abgoß some water from the bowl. Incidentally, the fish was dry now and the hunger great! End of the story: after the third attempt, the rice grains were hard. It had a sticky mass with solid grains formed. Incidentally, I also had to refill 3-4 times water the whole time. I then gave up after the third attempt. Current state is so that I can imagine, to cook more vegetables or fish with the device. However, I had the Garer also just bought to cook rice. I'll try again tomorrow with very little water. Should not fold well then, I'll probably buy another Garer (must). Incidentally, I had given some dried herbs to the flavor enhancer. The kitchen smelled then very good, but I did not feel that as the Seelachsfilet anything would have accepted from the herbs. I think the direct flavor of the food is probably better positive type, which must be cleaned all the dishes and the flavor enhancer in the dishwasher. Only the cleaning of the "base" is more difficult. When cooking, for example, the water from the fish ran into the base. The base is not anbehmbar and has emptied manually werden.Sollte the cook with the rice still fold, I would give the device probably 4 star. Among the other suppliers in the market, it is a good device (also had good reviews in various tests). Well priced and as I said probably BPA free. First Corollary. What I had overlooked cook at the FAQ on rice: apparently you have to put the rice paper directly on the base. Naturally makes sense, since the vapor as is most intense. But also means that you can cook rice only individually! I will try it and report. Quote: "Fill the water reservoir up to the MAX Place the drip tray on the equipment base Place steaming bowl 3 on the drip tray Place the rice bowl of water and rice filled in the steaming bowl 3, and put the lid on... the rice bowl. Set the timer for 40 minutes. The steam light. The cooking starts after about 30 seconds. "
UPDATE 20.1: I give up. Today I tried to cook the rice in the XL bowl directly on the Aroma use. It was added to 1 cup rice 2 cups of water. So everything perfectly according to instructions. But again it did not work! After 40 minutes, blurred hard grains in the water. A last attempt then: some water abgegeossen and restarted the rice program. And even after this a further 40 minutes the rice grains were absolutely hard. Thus, the rice was 80 minutes (!) Is still not all! Thus, I can not use this device easily. It was advertised with a rice cooking function that simply does not exist! So if in addition to vegetables or fish sometimes want to cook rice, which I can only advise against this device!
Update: 23.1: I have now bought the steamer Braun FS 5100 and am very satisfied so far. First try with rice in rice bowl was just perfect! The unit of Brown is right about 30 euros more expensive and not as "smart" (no LCD display, but simple knob), but works very well for the first time and top quality! And BPA-free (Brown also advertises it).
