Conveniently, the card came today with my new (used) Lenovo Thinkpad X220 in the mail!
Windows 7 Professional x64 was clean installed using Lenovo Recovery DVDs from the previous owner, ie the same as the first time put the card into the ExpressCard slot.
On its own Windows 7 did not install the card, even with Internet connection a suitable driver is automatically selected. I have not at first searched the internet for drivers with new art version or equivalent but simply insert the CD and install the drivers from the Device Manager. ("Browse my computer for driver software" select and then select the CD)
Afterwards seen in the enclosed instructions that I have of course done everything wrong but I can live with ;-) Works flawlessly!
Have equal my external Toshiba 2.5 "USB 3.0 hard drive tested. Depending on whether it is connected with USB 2.0 or 3.0 lights up white (2.0) or blue (3.0).
Of course the same "acid test" without the additional cable to the ExpressCard using an onboard USB2.0 port to power. However, indeed occupied only one of the two 3.0 slots.
The hard disk has shone blue right away and was immediately recognized.
Then I made a few tests with h2testw.
For this please look at the photos. The result can be described as positive ;-)
The test systems:
My X220 with a battery and if that's important: On the docking station (without power supply) because in the docking station, a DVD drive is what I needed for the driver CD. Win7 x64 freshly installed, 4GB RAM, Intel i5, 160GB HDD
My desktop PC:
Intel i5 3570K, 8GB RAM, SSD Samsung 840Pro, motherboard with onboard USB 3.0: Gigabyte Z77 DS3H.
As often complains it can happen that you pull the card together with the USB device. That always depends on the particular USB connectors from! I have a USB stick I can every time I want to pull out without what happens, but you have for most plugs be careful when pulling out. (I still tried various cables with which it happens that the card pulls out.)
One just needs a little bit careful.
This behavior may possibly be due to de respective notebooks as firmly "maintain" the card. (?)
I can live with that :-)
The supplied power cord I mentioned above not used, but I think if one is followed by 2 hard drives at the same time be better, take this cable.
Have 2 external 2.5 "HDDs simultaneously connected and copied data. One of the two to catch beeping. (!?) I've never seen! I then canceled as a precaution to test.
With the extra power USB cable at the same time I was able to copy files from both HDDs without problems.
An extra test with h2w I have not made again.
Overall, I am satisfied!
Very simple and inexpensive solution. And if you want the card can indeed expand quickly and use another. (EGPU etc? ;-)

Must change the rating, unfortunately, actually still vacillate between 1 or 2 stars!
The connection to the external hard drive interrupts happy times just like that. It may be enough that you anruckelt the table or just sit down and moving the mouse. Or sometimes by itself disconnects easily. Have just testing it my mouse connected to the USB 3.0 card and thought at first she had a broken button because sometimes simply did not arrive at my click laptop. But was also due to the USB3.0 card! On normal USB port from laktop no problem! Also my external HDD runs on onboard USB port reliable! Extra power cable I connected with when I have used the HDD but does not help. So nice wenns so quickly runs but if the connection is always breaks somehow useless ...
