The early 90s there were arranged by MTV Unplugged concerts a dime a dozen. No wonder that even Nirvana were asked whether they wanted to perform for her songs "without double bottom". Kurt Cobain was finally persuaded, after some wrangling. Dave Grohl commented that the band members had seen a lot of other bands and Unpplugeds displeased them that the artist would do so as if they were rock concerts like at Madison Square Garden. No wonder that Nirvana wanted to do it differently and so much calmer acted as one of them was it actually used. Quiet and lots of soulful interpreted the band their songs. They do not put on their standard program for other Nirvana concerts, but played a lot more songs that you actually not in their usual repertoire had as "Something in the Way" or "Polly" which but perfectly suitable for acoustic interpretations. In addition, much has been covered. The Vaselines, David Bowie, The Meat Puppets and Leadbelly belonged to it. The concert itself is when you listen to it and especially look, quite shocking and sad, because you can feel very clear and looks that Cobain seemed very ready and broken. He sways in his chair around, looks lost in a corner and his guitar can hardly operate properly if he has to sing at the same time. Songs like "Pennyroyal Tea" and "Dumb" act as almost like a kind of surrender and this man actually stood on the brink was unfortunately clear only a few months later on most tragic way. Perhaps it is precisely what distinguishes this concert this fragility and it has made to the now legendary appearance. Nirvana created by their music an atmosphere although depressing but is also incredibly beautiful. Particularly outstanding pieces are "About a Girl", "The Man Who Sold the World," "Dumb," "Plateau," "Oh Me", "Lake of Fire", "All Apologies" and "Where Did You Sleep Last Night ? ". In the latter, Kurt cries out towards the end of all the pain, what the concert closes impressively. The whole album is like a kind of requiem for Cobain. It also shows to what this band was capable, because the atmosphere that was created here is even today noticeable and has no equal. So the inclusion of this unplugged concert will conclude the much too short creative period Nirvana.
