Previously I had a Sandisk Extreme 32GB (45MB / s) in use, in addition I now bought a Sandisk Extreme Pro 32GB (95MB / s) and as a reserve, the Transcend Ultimate 32GB (85MB / s). The indicated Geschwindgkeiten are the maximum read speeds, thus completely irrelevant for use in a camera. What matters here is only the write speed - therefore of course I could not resist comparing the three cards immediately in practice (plus an old Class 4 card out of competition):
A77 on 8B / sec RAW + JPG, measurement once the camera image buffer is full:
SanDisk Extreme Pro: just under 1.4 frames per second
Transcend Ultimate: 1.1 B / sec
Sandisk Extreme: 0,9 B / sec
Sony 4GB Class 4: 0,2 B / sec
A77 on 8B / sec JPG Fine, measurement once the camera image buffer is full:
All three 32GB cards par, ie almost 2 frames per second (!)
Only the old Sony Class 4 had about 1.4 B / sec (which still is good for such a lame crutch)
A77 on 8B / sec JPG standard measurement as soon as the camera's internal image buffer is full:
This time a par all four cards, still just under 2 fps
Duration for complete emptying of the frame buffer to RAW + JPG (red light memory):
SanDisk Extreme Pro: 7 sec
Transcend Ultimate: 9 sec
Sandisk Extreme: 11 sec
Sony 4GB Class 4: 67 sec (!!!)
Interesting and quite unexpected results, I think.
Bottom line wins clearly the Sandisk 95, but the cost Transcend Ultimate 600x reflected much better than I would have expected - it therefore remains as an inexpensive replacement card in the camera bag. Not a difficult decision, because for security and long-term durability either way Sandisk has my full confidence (I use SanDisk's for years with tens of thousands of photos and did not have a single failure).
Conclusion: 5 stars for the great Sandisk 95. Although it is relatively expensive, but it also has something to offer. From my perspective, it is worth every penny.
