Amused To Death (CD)

Customer Review

Released in 1992, Amused To Death finally represents the last studio album as of Roger Waters, if we put aside the concept album "it will go." It is probably the best album of the solo career of Roger, much better or Radio Kaos The Pros and Cons of Hitch Hiking.
What surprises from the first listen, it is primarily the voice of Roger Waters. At 49, he has a voice that sounds very old and surprises from its nasal tone usually but pleasant. But it still allows some performances throughout the album.
The second surprise is the absolutely fabulous sound recording. The stereo effects are widely used, all this has been made possible through the use of Q-sound recordings, and especially after more than 18 months recording and mixing, in 10 different studios.
In terms of songs, the result is quite good, with very rich soundscapes. The megalomaniac character Roger pop up with lots of public of sounds in trance during certain songs. The two parts of "Perfect Sense" "are now part of his set lists concerts. The series of" What God Wants "and his recurring theme is a bit tedious at first listening but we made it. We lost perhaps for the start of the second half of the album, but it ends with two amazing songs. "It's A Miracle" and especially "Amused To Death", the title track of the album, with his drum part played by hand, which gives character to the muffled song, which is very nice.
This is in my opinion the most successful album of Roger Waters - solo - and as we now find it easily at low cost, it is a shame not to miss out!
