GENERAL
Despite the peculiar form of the D20 fits comfortably in your hand. The often mentioned in the reviews Handstraps solution I find absolutely brilliant - of course you can not put down the camera with the mounted hand strap, but can the hand strap quickly solved by the rotary shutter and the camera. Especially when diving, there are many situations where you want to, for example, take the camera in the other hand, or, for example, the buddy übergibbt - because it is quite the advantage that you can loosen the strap, no frills and just install again. Compared to Pentax WG-2 much harder.
SERVICE
in my opinion is absolutely intuitive. The menu is gestallten clearly and after a few minutes you already know where the individual functions can be found. Although I think that the menu has nothing in common with the menus of my two Canon DSLRs, but it is of course possible that could am I mistaken here and me so quickly make friends with it. The keys are all I find there where they should be and it also tends not to cover the lens, flash or sensors with your fingers.
SPEED
is absolutely top. Here, the D20 can definitely score points as "spontaneous camera" - the turn is almost non-existent, the camera is, so to speak immediately started ready after pressing the power button. The shutter lag is also extremely short, in good light, the camera focuses quickly. Approximately 3 seconds after turning on the camera is the first image in the box - for me a very important aspect.
Automatic mode
So not matter to me is the automatic mode with the SLRs, important as it is to me with a snapshot camera. Unfortunately, like all cameras of this category: the D20 is no way to set the shutter speed and aperture manually and therefore one must often rely on the automatic works and works very well with the D20. The automatic flash control works amazingly well - eg in distant subjects and low light (such as tree about 30 meters) of the automatic flash does not fire - that I know of many different cameras (also of the Pentax WG-2) because it is losgeblitzt even if it does not make sense.
BATTERY
I think is relatively weak - after almost 100 images is the first of three possible "lines" already gone and although almost all photos were shot without flash. Particularly for longer outdoor activities without charging way it is advisable to purchase a second battery, which is, however, totally amazing cheap. Here the Pentax WG-2 is it much better - even after 150 pictures the battery indicator was still on full, although the WG-2 very happy to use the flash.
UNDERWATER
I have already "laid to rest" several Unterwasse cameras (mainly Olympus models) and was actually never really happy with the image quality. The D20 shoots under water in bright light totally amazing great photos and definitely makes it better than all cameras of this class that I was previously used. In low light, you can adjust that moving objects are blurred, but this is logical and understandable, because the automatic mode turns down the Verschußzeit in low light.
FOCUS
Works quickly and accurately, except in the macro range. The Marko area is absolutely katastrofal, irrelevant though for me and my purpose. Particularly tragic is the fact that when the zoom is fully small objects are not focused - for example, a butterfly on the table in about 1 m distance, which should be mapped in full size. Here you have to zoom Minimals back then it works. Once it is fully extended, is closing with focusing. As I said - solved probably negligible, but still sloppy in practice.
VIDEO FEATURE
The D20 has an extra-tests with which a video recording can be started immediately without having to switch to video mode beforehand. I must say that it einfahc for my purpose is awesome - camera out, turn, keystroke - and you have a situation on video that you would definitely missed with other cameras. The quality is completely sufficient to in between times to make a video, but it is obviously not a substitute for a real HD camcorder.
SUMMARY:
+ Extremely short, almost non-existent on time
+ Short shutter lag
+ Ideal for spontaneous situations in the video area
+ Thoughtful menu Navigaton
+ Useful automatic mode
o Like all cameras this class more of a "fair-weather camera" in terms of image quality
- Low battery
- Comparatively heavy
CONCLUSION:
Very good snapshot camera that you can take anywhere. Who bemänget on such cameras:
- That the image quality decreases in low light
- That photos of moving objects in poor light are blurred
- That one can expect from a camera to 300,00 more
will never find a camera with which he is happy. There's a reason why a halfway usable DSLR to 400.00 EUR costs, we must not forget here that this DSLR is much larger and bulkier and even shock- and water-resistant. And a camera that shoots photos as a DSLR, while the size has a compact camera, shock and water resistant and will cost 300.00 is probably the next few years still remain wishful thinking (which I already see addict waiting for the day where the will be possible ;-)))
should be to deal more closely with the technical possibilities of the compact digital cameras and wonder why an SLR
