Customer Review

Short leading the way: This review aims to essentials - namely the camera and lens. And not on the dealers, packaging, delivery time, etc.

Background:
I gradually developed an interest in photography - but only had a Smartphone or a very old compact camera ham at hand. Consequently, I've decided to buy me a DSLR - rauszuholen more from the images.
But what? There are perceived 34234589 models of a variety of manufacturers.
Very easily! There is not the camera. All current DSLRs from the most common manufacturers such as Nikon, Canon, Pentax and Sony make it possible to shoot good and sharp images. The image quality depends largely on the person behind the camera. A 5000 DSLR shoots not automatically good pictures, if the photographer can not use this.
Why I have chosen for this model? Several hours of research have helped me since. In particular, the review and reviews of gwegner.de, valuetech, dkamera.de, and various YouTube channels.

** Now my impressions **

Optics & feel:
The camera feels quite high and has a very pleasant retaining comfort. The D5300 is in my opinion not too big or too small. Size and weight are consistent. With its rubberized surface on the right side of the camera, this can be very good and stable hold.

The display:
Very high resolution, sharp and bright (sunlight all is well recognized). The top and side hung function is very convenient as it is easier for other positions and perspectives try. The classical attitude "I hold the camera in the booth at head height and Scan directly los" acts but a bit boring - 0815 and 4711 just ;-). Camera down, turn on the floor screen, Live View on and go! - This is exactly what the display is intended and it works perfectly. The display is well made and it wobbles nothing.

Image Quality:
24MP are actually more than enough !. 10 MP are easily sufficient to print an A3 high resolution. If you can deal with a DSLR, the 24MP on the APS-C sensor are definitely enough! The pictures look very very sharp, even at a 3: 1 magnification. The number of megapixels of course is not the primary factor for image quality. Therefore, I can not imagine that a smartphone with 21MP "better" pictures shoots, as a Canon EOS600D or Pentax with 16MP.

Handling & menu:
Man is a creature of habit and get used to it pretty quickly to the menu of Nikon. Everything is clear and fairly well structured. Customised good I like the information display that provides all the important information like ISO, aperture, shutter speed, white balance, focus, etc.. In addition, this menu is easy to reach with a single keystroke.

Because I want entecken me photography as a new hobby, I've used from the beginning to the semi-automatic and manual mode. This is, of course, learning by doing hip. So you learn how the 3 most important factors (aperture, shutter speed and ISO) are related and what effects a change of a value on the screen.
The automatic modes such as Portrait, Landscape, Macro, etc. I have tried only briefly. However, who wants to quickly make a landscape, animal or child's photo, making the setting of each mode certainly nothing wrong. A camera for this money should be able to adjust the settings automatically for me according to my theme. And does this camera but pretty good.

The objective:
The focal length of 18-105mm already covers a fairly wide range. It is ideally suited as it as "always on it" lens for landscapes, Portraitts, sports, animals, etc. is very good for me to get started in the world of photography. Of course, the kit lens is not very bright with a maximum open aperture of 3.5-5.6. Me as a beginner you do not mind, because outweighs versatility for me the advantage. At some point I will probably buy myself a Brighter lens. But to get you started and on first steps of a new hobby, the lens is highly recommended. Although it is slightly more expensive than the 18-55mm, but also versatile. This choice of the kit lens must each take for themselves. Quick side note: Of course, we must not expect miracles from the kit lenses and not even compare them with 2,000 lenses. The autofocus works pretty fast and is in video mode not overly loud.

Battery & Accessories:
The battery lasts through good 600-800 images. Of course, this number is reduced, the more often the Live View mode (image appears on the screen and not in the viewfinder) is used. Charging the battery takes about 2-3 hours so (it did not measured with a stopwatch exactly). Included is still a belt and a sun visor. Both are okay and fit for purpose.

Another accessory I recommend a tripod and a camera bag (both also ordered from Amazon). The tripod to prevent camera shake at slower shutter speeds, and in order to protect the pocket camera precisely. Quite nice: in the bag, an additional battery was still in the process - and that for 40 - highly recommended.

GPS:
The GPS module I have not yet tested.

WLAN:
The actual WLAN functions without problems. The Nikon app is the last scrap. The functional scope is restricted seeeehr. You can either take pictures or press the shutter button, or download images to your iPhone. I hope Nikon improved since for something else. What is desired is an extensive camera control via iPhone. But at least, by the WLAN module saves you look at the remote control. There are also apps or programs of Drittanbiern that are much more sophisticated.

Conclusion: Due to the selection of various modes, which cover a fairly wide range of uses of photography, and the strong image sensor, the Nikon D5300 is very suitable for beginners. Due to the superior picture quality and the ability to manually configure the environment, this camera is also suitable for ambitious amateur photographers.

Who can do without the GPS and wireless module, I recommend the previous model: Nikon D5200.

PS: in the spring comes the successor D5500. In the D5500 there is no GPS module. However, a touch screen is installed. The rest, so at least according to test reports, the D5300 is still very similar.

PSS: This is my 2nd review on Amazon.com. I beg your indulgence if I have the tips and guidelines are not followed 100% ;-). If you have questions just ask.
