The following aspects in favor of this hard disk:
- Very low power consumption (most tests by the slightest, for example, also in comparison with the Green series, although it is only a few watts of difference to the competition, but for continuous operation with multiple hard drives at home this point is still to neglect not quite.. )
- Very low vibrations compared to the competition (vibrations affect the entire body and thus generate a high volume.)
- Comfortably low access and operating noise compared to the competition
- Low temperature compared to the competition
- 3 years warranty (Green series has 2 Years, Black Series [louder, faster] has 5)
- Opposite the Green longer specified period and approved for continuous operation
What speaks against it:
- The average error rate is at the level of other home plates. The example is better when the Seagate Constellation ES.2. By the error rate of use is a bit critical in a very large RAID with many of these hard disks.
My Experiences:
In fact, the vibrations of the Red with me are noticeably lower than with my existing hard drives WD Green series (2TB).
However, I read in Internet forums that customers have every now caught individual disks that are humming louder than others of the identical model series. So I have my two WD Red again connected externally and then tested. And actually vibrated the quite blatantly stronger than the other and was thus even higher than the level of vibration of my hard drives from the Green Series. After you replace the hard drive from the merchants the replacement hard drive is now properly and is in roughly the same level of the other Red (smaller manufacturing tolerances are acceptable imho). Would I recommend in any case to control because of the extra cost of the Red over the Green series or other competitors is justified in my view, especially by the lower vibrations.
