When unpacking the first good impression was confirmed: The camera is very easy (even easier than my previous smaller FX37), but does nevertheless not cheap but a high-quality impression. The arrangement and size of the keys is also good; only getting used to for me: the recording mode is now selected on the "Mode" button, no longer have a dial. The separate button for video recording also turns out to be very convenient.
The first practical test of the power input made a very good impression. The switching is very fast, the autofocus is quick and responsive, both in daylight and in dark lighting conditions, and the minimum time between 2 images is also felt very briefly for a compact camera.
As for picture quality, the impression was also good. Sharp images, both in Weiwinkel and Zoom are very possible with this camera. Although I could detect a slight blur towards the corners, although not really bother if you do not specifically pays attention. Up to 200 ISO the images are very clear and detailed. From 400 ISO however noise is visible, but not yet to ISO 800 proves to be really disturbing. Only with ISO 1600 the small sensor shows its limitations, but the images are still useful for small prints. What surprised me very positively the quality of the image stabilizer. Shooting in dimly lit tunnels at 1 / 10s (ISO 800) were not blurred and looked really good. The camera is thus also absolutely suitable for indoors in low light.
The video mode also turns out to be quite useful and qualitative. The zoom works silently while the films, and the automatic focusing is quite effective. The sound quality is acceptable.
The recording options are geared towards automatic and scene settings, a manual adjustment mode does not exist (except for setting the ISO level). The automatic work but excellent, and the scene settings should also cover the more "exotic" wishes for image settings in many cases. Further extras like the panoramic images by moving the camera and the 3D images Mode prove to be nice and useful gadgets.
How come only 3 stars, despite the good criticism so far? At the first turn on the camera itself disillusionment wide. The display turns out to be extremely dependent on the angle, and quite reflective. Once you deviate a little from the direct viewing angle, looking from slightly above or below the screen, the colors on the screen are completely washed out or blacked out and can be seen virtually nothing more. The "higher viewing angle" Brightness option saves nothing. In direct comparison to display my 4 year old FX37 worlds were in between. This saving in the wrong place has robbed me of a lot of fun taking photos, especially since I often tend to camera while taking pictures not directly in front of me to keep (such as taking photos with a stretched arm "over the crowd" or "the corner "). Even looking at pictures on the camera for more is thus virtually impossible. Sorting out bad images is also made more difficult since the colors appear completely different with a slight inclination of the head.
Conclusion: the camera is an excellent choice for those who are looking for a lightweight, pants suitable camera with a good zoom and image quality * and * where the quality of the display does not matter. Earned from the design, features and image quality of the camera ago 4-4.5 star (not 5, because the image quality in direct comparison with other references could be a bit better, and some manual adjustment features such as exposure time are missing). For me personally, however, the poor display was a knockout point (-1 Stern) and reason enough to return the camera with great regret again. The fun taking photos and viewing pictures was unfortunately very limited with me through this point.
