I operate the receiver with two Teufel Ultima 40 Mk2 floorstanding loudspeaker. Since I had plenty of cable at home, I have connected the speakers in bi-wire mode - in the Yamaha manual it is referred to as "bi-amping", which I think is not 100% accurate. It seems to me that the sound has thus really improved a little, but I was actually previously already very satisfied.
The connection to the TV (Samsung UE55F6500) via HDMI from the HDMI OUT on the receiver to the HDMI input on the TV 2, as this is when my TV the Audio Return Channel (ARC). At the receiver depends on HDMI1 input a Playstation. Since the RX-S600 does not have integrated Wi-Fi, I set up the connection via a Netgear wireless to Ethernet Adapter (WNCE-3001), which works fine. The special thing about this Netgear adapter is that it can be operated via USB. The RX-S600 has it on the back of a USB port, which is a pure voltage output. Only at the front USB can be played by a flash drive or iPod music. There are so a wireless adapter by Yamaha, but this is more expensive.
Through the wireless connection of the RX-S600 appears on as Airplay device on the network. In the settings can be specified that the rear USB port permanently - so even in standby - is supplied with voltage and so the Netgear adapter always running. The network connection is therefore also active in standby and the receiver can be awakened either by Airplay or the Yamaha app for iOS or Android! The addressed app - I use it on iPhone - is also very well done. You can configure exactly which sources are active and thus the input selection in the App will be clearer in the app.
Another feature is the Internet radio, which I was initially negatively surprised, because this is very simple and I could not find my favorite channels. But here there is a solution: You need to go to the page yradio.vtuner.com and enter the ID of the receiver (MAC address), which can be read in the settings and create an account. On the vTuner page, I have hitherto found all the channels that I've been looking for. One can then rely on the favorites list and they will appear on the receiver under "Bookmark". Important: When you first add a transmitter a favorites list has to be created. This list must bear the name "My__Favorites", otherwise the balance will not work with the receiver! Maybe update is reworked here with a firmware. This status refers to Version 1.02.
The FM tuner also works very well. I opted for the cheaper option without digital radio because to my knowledge in Austria in the foreseeable future is not expected with the introduction of DAB.
The operation in conjunction with other devices worked very well. When I turn on the TV, the receiver turns on also. One small problem I have found, however, and I do not know if this is due to a special, faulty interaction between Yamaha Receiver and Samsung TV. When I call the Yamaha menu or turn on the Playstation, the TV will automatically switch to HDMI 1, so the source of which comes the video signal of the receiver. But if I turn off the Playstation again and want to watch TV, the TV will not switch to the TV tuner, but remains on HDMI1, even if I switch the receiver to "TV". It is then manually selecting the correct source on TV required. That would probably work better with an external satellite receiver, because the TV remains always the same input and must only switch the receiver between PS and satellite.
The processing of the receiver in my opinion is also very good, the materials convey an impression of quality and design I like also, because he very symmetrical works by two equally large knobs for "Input" and "Volume".
Update:
On 31 January 2014, the update is published to version 1.05, which the receiver "Spotify Connect" gets, the but only with a Spotify Premium account (10 Euros / month) works. One can also Spotify via AirPlay to stream to the receiver, but Spotify Connect has the advantage that the stream is received directly by the receiver and via the phone only the control. With Airplay iTunes or an iOS device receives the music and streaming them over the local Wi-Fi continues to the receiver. The consumption for a longer battery and is interrupted during a call. For Android devices Airplay is innately No - I do not know whether this function can be retrofitted via the store - hence Spotify Connect is interesting specifically for Android devices.
