Three years ago, when I wanted to send my old halogen spotlights in retirement, I had decided against the LED technology. In retrospect, I regret this decision, however. My choice was then to ESL spotlights of Megaman with 14 watts and a beam angle of 90 degrees. Unfortunately, it is with these radiators (as with all CFL bulbs) so that the warm-up time (3-4 minutes) fails so long that it is quickly tilted to the lighting just to let. This of course makes any energy savings to niece.
It is quite different with the Osram lamps!
What immediately stands out positively, is the very high-quality finish. The LEDs are located in a metal housing that is meticulously crafted and has no sharp edges or corners. This of course makes for a much needed cooling of the LEDs, but could lead through the correspondingly high weight, with so many lamps to problems. At my lamp, at the various versions adjusting screws are available that ensure even with heavy emitters for which they remain in place after alignment.
The biggest difference was noticeable immediately after switching on. You do not need any warm-up time and immediately deliver light. After three years with energy saving lamps (CFL), really a huge step forward. The quality of light is truly remarkable. Hard to believe that this should only have a color rendering index of 80. The color of food and other things which stand around in my kitchen look much fuller and more natural than with my old radiators.
At 6.5 watts Osram deliver 100 lumens per emitter more than my old 14 Watt Mega Mans and they were touted as alternatives already for 70 Watt halogen spotlight.
I had only a little concern at the rather small beam angle (36 degrees), the supply Osram's on paper. These doubts were, however, dispersed after the first trying out immediately. Although they provide much more light in a smaller cone of light, but the transitions are quite fluent. Although all 5 spotlights are focused on the work surfaces, the light still reaches around the kitchen to the ceiling. So no tunnel vision as my old halogen spotlights.
Who really needs a lot of light in the kitchen or in the hobby room, which is served really sufficient with these radiators. Who but a little dignified like, which can also quietly take up somewhat weaker models.
What furthermore pleasant stands out is the very low height. This is based more on halogen and less at CFL lamps.
what I like
- High quality
- No warm-up times as with CFLs
- Very natural and warm light
- High light output
- Very compact
