The autofocus of the new lens is super fast. The images are very sharp and contrasty (recognizable better than the previous model). Figure weaknesses I could now not to recognize. A real pleasure to photograph it.
I actually bought the lens to separate me from my large and heavy 200-400 or at least to have a viable alternative. The new AF-S 80-400 is so good that I hardly have found differences in autofocus and image quality compared to what naturally speaks highly for the new 80-400 (it being understood that continuous shutter 4.0 is 200-400 even brighter and Therefore, when you crop in terms Bokeh has its advantages - but also three times as expensive).
The new 80-400 is, in my opinion, is processed very valuable. It consists partly of (very high quality) plastic, which one only sees if one is further investigated. The objective is for such a focal length but still handy and briefly even used without a tripod, which is due not least to the use of plastic.
