In the USB 3.0 model, lying on the cable once a Micro USB 3.0 connector to connect to the hard drive and a USB 3.0 A plug for connecting to the computer. Unlike the USB 2.0 model, here no second plug for sufficient power supply of the device is required. Consequently, only one slot on the computer / Hub is established.
Theoretically, it could now come jacks 2.0 compatibility issues with USB, since constructional reasons instead of 900 mA, a maximum 500 mA current can be provided. Practically I can however confirm that neither of my iMac (2.0), still based on other Windows computers, has come with USB 2.0 ports to any incompatibilities. The board always worked flawlessly.
Attracting attention, does the USB 3.0 cable, but the larger cross-section compared to older USB revisions. In principle, I welcome a more robust and verwindungssteiferes cable, however, the length of just 45 cm proves to be significant limitation. 20-30 cm more would have done the cable very well and because of the higher stiffness, but one comes pretty quickly reach the limits of what is possible. Without the plug, just 38 cm, effectively usable cable remain.
Personally, I was less a high data transfer rate (have only USB 2.0 and Firewire ports), but rather a robust and durable design important. Since I travel a lot and even at home quite happy times down throw my Stubentiger what was clear to me that must be designed from the outset to minimize shock to the hard drive.
The rubber surface proves practical than twice. On the one hand it is a very good grip, thereby reducing the probability to have the hard drive just fall. On the other hand, it is also relatively non-slippery at the workplace and reduces thereby also the risk of recurrence. Unfortunately not include the uppermost layer of rubber the whole hard drive and draws so not the complete potential of. Both on the back and on the front, there is a smooth plastic bar which is something sublime. This will be forfeited by the actual skid resistance much again. If the hard drive placed on the front, so the slip resistance is further reduced significantly. Since the backup button is slightly raised, this then instead of the rubber / bar is located on the surface and allows the hard drive to slide even more! Here I would have liked a slightly lowered button which has no direct contact with the work surface and of course the best of a rubber surface that captures the entire hard drive. The rubber surface is actually very vulnerable to dust, pet hair, crumbs and are these not as fast restores.
In direct comparison with a WD My Passport Edge, immediately falls on the very pleasant noise and heat. The drive is in operation, other than the Edge, barely audible and even prolonged operation, just lukewarm.
Since I do not use the bundled software, the backup button on the first glance, quite unnecessary. By reconnect feature, but he turns out to be quite handy feature. If the disk is ejected and you have forgotten something, then the disk is detected by the touch of a button as soon as possible as a drive.
What I liked:
- Very handy surface
- Silent operation
- Is just warm to the touch
- 3 years warranty
- Backup button can be used to reconnect super "
- Also works with USB 2.0 socket properly
What I did not like:
- By design errors much of the slip resistance is lost again
- USB cable fall somewhat short
