I bought in May 2013 the Xperia Z, because it 55 and IP 57 standard should be water- and dust-resistant according to the IP. And 1.5 months, I was thrilled by this phone. It did what it should. The phone I had in a protective bag in the front pocket. After the rain the phone from the outside was damp, but no matter, it's waterproof - I thought at least. But when I wanted to take a photo the day after the rain, but I realized that the camera was fogged from the inside. After 5 days the moisture had evaporated, but the beginning of August, the accumulated total failures of the phone. After consultation with Sony I sent the phone to the service partner w support. After 5 days I got the phone back, with the remark: "carried out ... irreparable damage to the circuit board by corrosion damage ... leak test and successfully passed ... no guarantee ..." and Article has not been repaired. " By returning me was a "statement list" sent as corrosion damage can be avoided: 1. Water: Keep your phone to always dry, never brought into contact with water. 2. Snow: Protect your phone from low temperatures. OK, against all these conditions I have driven - I was using the phone outside, I came into the rain, etc .. had bad luck! Even though I'm sure I had locked all the doors of the unit, the humidity sensor the headphone jack had turned pale pink. And therefore the guarantee expires. When w Support a leak test was allegedly carried out after the machine "close" is. What kind of a test, no idea. Perhaps the dive it a try in the water. But the phone you have to even look at exactly: The flaps are measly plastic closures with a rubber coating for waterproofing. But now comes for me the absolute NO GO. Just tried once to contact Sony to take. OK, work on the hotline, only the employees do only her job, she calls and nothing else. So you write a mail! A? Dozens ... but it does not even come an acknowledgment of receipt. You write so felt for the trash - an inquiry to the hotline showed at least that some messages have been received, unfortunately, they have not yet been processed. A goodwill application was sent 10 days before fax. No Reaction. A demand for the hotline also here, received the fax, but has not yet processed revealed. First-class service! For the past five weeks now runs the whole way, without that I also get by SONY only a concrete message. The only concrete news is that of w-support, which is present a water damage. The seller clevertronic.de runs out completely, as water damage is always their own fault. As the water gets inside the phone, no one knows. But it was there and so is the whole my problem - PP (personal misfortune). Amazingly, though, is that I get my Samsung Galaxy S had the same pocket II. After the thunderstorm of this was not only wet, it was really wet, because I had it in a leather case that is waterproof. The permeated water is certainly not expired. This phone, however, show no damage, although this "is waterproof in no case. My Conclusion: 1. the phone is good as long as it works. 2. It may be waterproof, at the beginning. But it can not remain tight - and when you notice it, it's too late. 3. The way Sony handles the customer, is an impossibility. Either there are now so many damage occurred, that the service no longer keep up with the work, or it is planned by SONY, rid the customer by inaccessibility. Both variants exhibit an indictment of the company.
UPDATE 12/18/2013 On August 4, I had my XPERIA Z sent to the service and since then I have corresponded with Sony and w-support. Countless phone calls, more letters and a total of 23 e-mails. I wanted a goodwill gesture but a repair of the appliance, Sony disclaims any goodwill and refers to the warranty conditions as to any warranty in water damage goes. So far, so clear, so you have to not write 23 emails. W support had performed and demonstrated that the device was sealed with closed valves, a leak test of the device. But I wanted to know how because the leak test is performed. To make a long story short, w Support performs a vacuum testing by on the device and through this it is proved that the device is close to a vacuum of 100 mbar (ie a water depth of 1 m) when all doors are closed. But that is far from proven that the device without this vacuum is tight. For me, the unit became wet from a rainstorm and the moisture passes through cohesive forces in the unit. After 23 emails and 4 months without the phone, the device has now been replaced by Sony as a goodwill gesture towards a XPERIA Z 1, that I actually since yesterday (after only a XPERIA Z was sent by w support, so pack up , back to the post office again and again Porto wait another week ... also the service partner makes no particularly competent impression). Résumé of the whole affair: As I wrote in my first notification, the phone is nice, works and is fun. This was true of the Xperia Z and will probably also apply to the Xperia Z1 that MMN even looks better. But four months struggling to be pushy and always repeat the same facts ... just do the bad mood. And so I have no desire for this device. Meanwhile, I got myself a Lumia and that makes just what it is. Phone calls, Internet ... without a water tightness is promised here, which is only given when I leave the phone at home. And if the Lumia should be wet at the construction site once, then it will probably be just as broken as the Sony. But Nokia promises indeed otherwise. The conclusion is: Anyone who thinks an advertising promise is your own fault. The Sony is waterproof, if you comply with the above-cited by me rules consistently. Let your phone get wet, use it only in dry environments, take it never in winter with outside etc ... I guess I'll stick to it and just could not stop using. 4 months, that was just too long!
