When I first heard of it, that there would be a map series to "The Song of Ice and Fire", I googled least once a week after work. Finally, I wanted to see a map of the whole world, I finally wanted to see places that so far due to the limited perspective of the story is told in each case had to be left out, etc.
Now I have the good pieces are and have to say that I am disappointed in this Hisicht before me. But we analyze the times factually:
-------------------------------------------
About the artwork:
What exists here are richly illustrated versions of already known from the books or the Internet / or fan articles for train tickets, as big beautiful poster. No more and no less. The fact that the world is finally assembled and you especially in the East now has an official version (in this case the fan artwork were often wrong, even if there are some who see this product remarkably similar) is one thing that I as fans appreciate very white. It is in the work by 12 large posters, which are all designed in color very appealing:
(The Known World, Slaver's Bay, Dothraki Sea The, Beyond the Wall, Westeros, The West, The Free Cities, Central Essos The East, King's Landing, Bravos, Journeys)
--------------------------------------------
Cards in the Player Ratings:
Meie Highlights:
-The Known World: Here I need nciht more to say. It is the first official map Related
-Westeros: For those who hated it, always having to gaze on two cards in the first two books. Here is the poster for the second reading passage!
-Journies: Connects the World with the story. A sensible idea.
Also very interesting:
- Beyond the Wall: detailed view of the wall, highly detailed representation of the country that lies behind it. As detailed was not yet to see that.
Good idea, lousy implementation:
- Kings Landing: A giant poster with a loud houses. The vast majority of them do not look interesting and are not labeled. Should Kings Landing is not a city of millions? When I think of what it all was in ancient Rome to places of interest, as the population has for the first time exceeded the one million limit, then I think that here just a little lean. Here one could have been more creative / need.
- Bravos: Due to its location in the water a bit more interesting than Kings Landing. Still, I would have found other places interesting. For example, a plan of Winterfell ... or Harren Hall etc.
Redundant Maps:
Here you have verucht to get the work thicker. The meaning does not open up to me. The remaining cards is enlarged excerpts from the world map. But these are not highly detailed, yet from Maßstaab ago designed so that they could be stuck together in a very large world map. Particularly annoying is here that the card "The Dothraki Sea," and "Central Essos" as well as "The West" and "Westeros" / the most part are actually very similar to the same.
--------------------------------------------
Featuring:
The all cards have been drawn opisch appealing, I have already mentioned. Otherwise there but while featuring criticism. The cards were so tightly folded that sometimes the color is at the kinks since. As a poster on the wall therefore make the cards are not really good. Ever is a little the question of what we should now do with the cards. You may have one or two presses in a picture frame, so the Knicks not stand quite as bad and they hang up. But you want all 12 hanging? For all the love! Although I am a big fan, but when I with posters from ASOIAF pave my entire apartment as a teenager, think Beknatte well, I have no longer any. Now comes the dilemma. Somehow I am then too very collectible. If I hang 2 or 3 cards and the rest place on the shelf, then the work for me is somehow incomplete. So do what? Escapism together? But the problem then is that you then probably never gets the cards out again, because they are very bulky.
----------------------------------------------
What I would really have liked:
When I heard there would be a work entitled "TheLands of Ice and Fire," at first I thought it would be a kind of atlas. I imagined, in this there would be any necessary cards to each chapter, as well as a thematic part, which the various regions devoted. A kind of cultural studies book to the world of George Martin so that brings you closer than cards, artwork and display texts, as well as recipes (eg from A Feast of Ice and Fire), lyrics etc. The World of Ice and Fire.
-----------------------------------------------
Wrong time?
At first I had gewüscht me an even greater map. A card that a truly reveals how the continents are on the planet, like the Land of Always Winter looks, etc. But when I glanced at the journeys, I realized: you can not reveal that. For more details or a larger scope would accept the continuation of the story in advance. This begs the question for me to. You might have had to, until the series is finished? Or you have to hang up the work after each new book at least new?
Conclusion
So with all much too strong bent posters remains "The Lands of Ice and Fire" Unfortunately, neither one thing whole. A really nice, kustvoll arranged work, in which you can not really decide what you do with it and the one the World of Ice and Fire unfortunately close brings much less than has been the advance might want.
