Philips 55PFL8008S / 12 140 cm (55 inch) TV (Full HD, triple tuners, 3D, Smart TV) (Electronics)

Customer Review

Moin,
I have the TV now for a few days and as the title suggests, I am somewhat ambivalent ... read yourself. I have already posted in Hi fi forum, I to anyone who wants to check before buying and not among other things, "embellished" 5 Star recessions (I call so) want to leave.

Here's my short review:

Scope of supply:
TV, two (battery-powered) 3D glasses, remote control, cables, etc.

These are at a 2499 device Battery Glasses case, I find honestly pretty wicked ...
The remote control is a clear step backwards in my eyes.

This is now made entirely of plastic and does not feel nearly as wertig to like my 6877 with aluminum surface.

Optik TV is massive and well finished. However, the LEDs make on the left a kind beep sound ... although only heard up to a distance of about 30 cm, but it sounds somehow unhealthy to, if you know what I mean.
Even the TV is not very noise is generally poor. (Run without some) When switched on, can be heard a fine totals. This was not noticeable in the series last year.

Menu:
Compared to 6877 the menu is about twice faster. Although open the menu takes a bit, but scroll goes relatively quickly.

Software:

Have just the floor plan software, but this is my opinion, unfortunately, between - benign and -totaler scrap classify ...
Menus open up quite quickly, whereas on Smart TV is not to think. The menu opens, but hooked it, sometimes the TV hangs ...
This does not always happen, but even more often. It also happens that the OK button has a general time outs and after about 10-15 seconds to work again. This is sometimes quite annoying when you're just in the menu and can not get out.

On the positive side, however, that the representation of movement has generally improved. Both without image improvers, as well as with Perfect Natural Motion.
For those who still lay people I explain this very briefly. The PNM Engine is an algorithm that is used for inter-frame calculation. Then every real image, further added between. This movement should act liquid. Unfortunately, this year in the series (Philips PFL 6007- 8007) never really worked. The processor of this TV`S was simply too weak and therefore caused massive image errors. Also on the setting minimum occurred this still propagated on, especially in fast-moving scenes. Especially this brought many buyers to despair because Philips has compared to Sony considerable problem with the representation of movement, keyword "judder".

But now back to 8008:
PNM is much more pleasant than it was in 6877 or 8007. Even at maximum it provides for fast movements -brauchbare- results. Picture errors occur maximum still on, but not nearly as many as in 8007. I have now to minimum and am satisfied. But it is true movements are thus still not truly natural.
Another flaw that begin to glow when substituting the current three upper LEDs, this switch, however, after a while again. It is securely fixed through a software update, but that Philips makes the same mistakes every year disturbs something ^^

Even with PNM on out, I think it's gotten a lot better the representation of movement. Still no stutter compared to Sony, but it works "almost liquid" with only minimal. I suppose as a layman can see that not, but especially last year saw the presentation of still bucking more like 24p movie.

We come to the image:
The picture is just terrific. Colors, contrast all at the highest level. All around a simply picture perfect. Banding occurs with me on in a quite acceptable level and is only minimally vorahnden. Therefore I certify the Philips image -VERY GOOD! -

Unfortunately, this impression ends at the first film, in the evening, because ...
Illumination:
With me Flashlight can be seen in every corner. Also Clouding occurs in the middle, on the bottom. General acting in films of the lower black bars more gray than black. This is again not hinbekommt this is to abolish me complete mystery. One sees especially in the lower corners of massive irradiation of background lighting.

I now get the function "Dynamic Backlight" in the grip of these problems. This works quite well. Compared to 8007, no flashing occurs, or "twitch" at scene changes from light to dark on more. I hope that that is not ruined for the next software update!

Sound: Yes, the sound ... On the one hand I'm absolutely thrilled. For internal speaker good bass and clear voices. I was wondering about whether I still need a sound bar with these speakers and will for the time being without it.
But even here there is a drawback: They begin to crackle and to noise when they are turning up the volume on 38/100. Is a movie, of course, no longer noticeable, but it bothers yet, as we speak here of a volume of slightly more than low volume, in which the speakers start to crackle.

3D: Mhh I'm still ambivalent ... The depth seems to have become less me. Even when adjusting the depth effect on "More" is significantly less than the 6877th
Nevertheless, 3D looks pretty good. Movements are largely soft, but ghosting is still quite strong there! I hope here there are still updates, but that can (will) take.
Update: I've now watched a few 3D movies. I must correct myself. Ghosting is really only minimally present. The 3D image is absolutely top. Only the depth is to som me something, or subjectively less than the 6877th image in 3d absolutely top!

The Amblight is as always a treat! Ander I can not say it. The picture is much larger and more dynamic.

Overall, a 2500 euro expensive television remains a stale aftertaste. Undoubtedly, the 8008 is a great device, but it has some glaring errors that a no go for me in this price range simply.

For those who still can wait a bit and Ambilight does not need soon comes the Sony 55W905 on the market. This seems to initial reviews to be the forum of TV in 2013 with us. It will probably cost more again 500 euros, but I would throw most rates at least take a look at the Sony because Sony itself boasts with having got Clouding and banding completely under control.

I hope this helps some.
