Evil is in Rickman's view a power that comes from the action of individuals. Whose deeds are not atoned for their lifetime (or remain, as in this novel, from interest undisclosed), they seem even more ominous to future generations after, until the truth is mercilessly exposed. It is the strength of this author, to show in detail how individual involvement can lead to greater disaster. Present novel is not only the radiography of a past crime, but also a genre picture of a rural society that is falling apart.
Rickman's strength here turns out, unfortunately, as a weakness. There are intertwined without all learn a satisfactory resolution simply too many storylines. It is left to the reader, they spin over.
Conclusion: not a bad novel, Rickman can but even better (For example: The Chalice). Nevertheless, recommended.
