Installation:
The installation of the upgrade to an existing Windows 7 environment (SSD) went with me easily, although not quite as fast as some other customers described here. For me, the basic installation in about 35 min. Lasted.
The data of the previous operating system are in a Windows.old folder moved here "on the system partition and for Windows 8, the corresponding Windows folder will be created. So you can be pretty sure that the newly installed Windows 8 not with remnants of the old system in any form is mixed.
I have not set up an online account MS ", but my Windows environment
adjusted for the corresponding setup dialog on local - ie without the deposit of an email address.
Activation of the new Windows you should from the well-known view of the system environment make (Desktop, My Computer -> Properties) may, as offered in the right Metro Sidebar option (settings) for some ungodly reason could not access the Internet.
Existing programs: all programs previously used to work before.
Updates:
Then I have "triggered the still queued automatic updates manually through the Control Panel.
This should be tightened with me a total of 14 updates.
However, this proceeded at first not quite as smoothly.
Some of this downloaded update installations have failed in the first instance.
To be assessed positively in this case is that the Windows 8 -Setuproutine the affected update failed attempts resets automatically, or they tried to correct subsequently automatically. After several restarts all currently available updates were then installed successfully.
Driver:
From previous consideration all the drivers have been properly recorded, and all hardware components were detected.
Only with the driver for the sound card X-Fi Extreme Music "there were small problems right after installation.
Starting the Sound Blaster Console (Game Mode -> Sound mode) led once to crash.
After another restart, Windows 8 seems to have the driver again re-deposited. Only the speaker settings (2.1 -> 5.1) had to be touched up afterwards again manually. Then it ran.
Performance:
After all installations and updates were done, I have run the computer for about an hour in idle mode so that the TRIM feature of the SSD could pass through undisturbed.
Now the new system starts (after the BIOS run) within about 8-10 seconds completely. It is only the Windows 8 logo briefly seen - without the usual circular animation. The PC is fully accessible immediately after the start / used.
I think that's pretty impressive!
Feel / look:
Tja- as already described by other reviewers, the Metro-surface is first getting used to and some seem a bit unnecessary for the PC application.
I too have therefore cleared first strong between all the tiles, preferably use the desktop.
Tip:
Due to the missing Start menu in the desktop environment, I can be a Nexus-bar "highly recommended. Here I have next to all major links and program icons and the buttons to restart and shutdown inserted because these functions can be accessed otherwise somewhat cumbersome.
Conclusion:
An upgrade to a fast-paced Windows 8 for the offered price was definitely worth it,
even if some is first used to, or you have to make some individual adjustments - of course is a matter of taste ;-)
