Within a short time I am in love with this look, I admit also like to and would now like to briefly times why this is so.
My former camera was a 500D from Canon, so the crop size. My "objective Park" consisted of the Sigma 10-20, the Tamron 17-50, the EF 60 2.8 and a 70-200 f4. Actually, I was super prepared and well equipped for virtually any situation. Mainly I have been photographing landscapes and architecture, often is also a macro, here and there a portrait. I am not a professional photographer.
The lens on Crop format - "untenrum" too long?

When I 24-105 the first time had the 500D, much the same to me one thing most on. If, like me preferred photographed landscapes that 24mm on crop sensor partially pretty fast "too long". That was me, of course, already aware, but the focal length proved to be getting used to, here and there I would have liked to have more wide angle. In most forums you always read "24mm on Crop ... for landscape?!? NO !!" ... but after about 4 months with 24mm, I'd like very clear "YES!" say.
The Wide-delusion, as I call him times also as a peculiarity in photography. If possible, only 10mm! ! .. Added the wow factor - I was so! The effect is really quite at the beginning Krass, when you look through the viewfinder di first few times. For me, however, has proved quickly that 1) Ultra-WW also a focal length is "only" and you need to know 2), how to handle it. When I look at today my photos, which were made with a UWW I feel most as pure and simple: boring.
You get it a lot, sure. But this go Detais lost, the picture looks very quickly cluttered, crowded. Often there is no clue, too much is undesirable in the picture included, possibly even highlighted. Do not get me wrong, you can really conjure up very beautiful photos with UWW, ... you can!
The 24mm I look mitlerweile much more than a challenge, not as a limitation. One is "forced" to look much more expressive image sections. Just lately I've found that in some cases only on 35mm starts up, really capture a scene! Following the motto: "Less is more!" So for me personally 24mm on Crop no problem at all. This has, in effect, of course, still decide for themselves, I still hope that I can convince some people have to the effect :-).
Mitlerweile I have it on my 7D and am fully satisfied by the way - even after I have tested it on the 5D Mark II ;-)!
Aperture 4 or 2.8? Respectively: 24-105, or at least 24-70 ?!

Like many others, I naturally asked myself the same question also. Endless discussions additonally in ALLEN photo forums.
Short un succinctly: I chose the 24-105 because anyway landscapes from panel 8 start up ... and me back to the IS plays into the hands when it comes to taking pictures "out of hand"!
Positive side effect: The exemption (.! Incl wonderful Bokeh) from 70mm upwards is also not to be sniffed at aperture 4, the small-screen format anyway ;-)
Handling
==========
Who has ever had a "L" in hand, which will come up against a very good friend. The 24-105 is processed very solid. It is due to its size and weight well in hand. For smaller and lighter lenses, I used often feel that I am very fast "forgave" and more wiggle than this here!
The zoom ring rotates with very pleasant resistance, which means you can make very precise and even changes the focal length. Pleasant resistance in the case not to be confused with cumbersome or even "stuck." The same is true for the focus, in the man - can also intervene during the auto focus - as for L lenses with ring-type USM usual.
Processing gets me so the highest possible score, am absolutely satisfied!
Focus and autofocus

Since there is not much to say. I had been 2 models of 24-105, a new and a used one. Both were also at 100% Crops (on Crop) still "sau-sharp"! I personally do not poster prints, maximum A4, I can not complain even more. Again, the lens adopts the same "L-myth" of sharpness.
The autofocus is due to ring-type USM rapidly and virtually silent. Never again without USM!
Colors and Lens Distortion

The color rendering is in my opinion lifelike, so far I could festellen no discrepancies that would have not to do with the person Hiner camera ;-)
Chromatic aberrations? Seeking them still. Even if they do occur, they are probably still so low that it also gets factored out the standard camera software without any problems!
Conclusion
=====
Personal is the 24-105 my dearest always plan, the focus range is right, even at the Crop! The build quality is great and the image quality remarkably. I would buy it again and again!
For all undecided: it will bring you yet ersmtal used, testing and then you can still decide! If you then but should someday get the crazy idea of wanting to switch to small format you need beyond the lens does not change .. EF mount! In my opinion, you really can safely access without even a single time to be disappointed, thank you Canon! :-)
