Whiskey Myers - Road of Life (2008)
Since Tishamingo no new star in the Southern sky has in me so leave an impression like these guys from Texas. A few years ago the two began musically extremely talented friends Cody Cannon (lead vocals, rhythm guitar) and Cody Tate (lead vocals, lead guitar) from the East Texas backwater Elkhart (about 1300 inhabitants) * writing our own songs. Zusamenn with John Jeffers talented lead guitarist, they formed a band under the name "Lucky Southern". After that they moved to Tyler, Texas. Here they met up the excellent bassist Gary Brown from Nachez, Texas (Incidentally, a cousin of Cody Cannon) and the drummer Jeff Hogg (from Palestine, Texas). Under the name "Whiskey Myers" they stepped in local clubs, toured East Texan little town and occurred on a Flatbed Truck-Trailer.
Their popularity and fan base grew. Suddenly, the band became known throughout the country. Then went "Whiskey Myers" in Studio.
Whiskey Myers' music is based on a variety of styles from different eras, but mainly on the influence of classic seventies rock, Southern rock and Jamrock bands. These influences are intelligently processed to a homogeneous sound which is characterized by a large variety and much Kraetivität, good songwriting, enthusiasm, youthful freshness and insouciance, but also of astonishing musical maturity and competence.
The singer's voice reminds me of Ronnie Van Zandt in the early hours of Lynyrd Skynyrd.
Like no other band suggests the quintet thanks to his great musical abilities a wonderful bridge between good ol 'Southern rock and today's times.
It is not to describe individual songs my thing (each of us feels differently) but when I hear Whiskey Myers "Gone Away", then I think I "Tuesday Gone" Anno Domini 2008've heard.
