Houses of the Holy (CD)

Customer Review

After the first four faultless albums (although some listed ahead of the music press had entertained some doubts about the bucolic Volume III ...), sealed the airship was back in the year 1973 with its fifth album called, not Led Zep V but Houses of the Holy. This name change it was the harbinger of a change, a an emergency landing or a catastrophic crash? Let us listen to the thing .....

As soon as the first one is reassured: it is the Led Zep pure juice, with a "song remains the same" colored oriental sounds and adorned with air soli the best effect. The second title "The rain Song" begins with a very delicate and intimate Robert Plant and Jimmy Page subtle. There was a little tick when the violins take the stage, but hey, it's done, it goes ... "Over the Hills and far away" continues in the intimate vein until the beast wakes up on chaining a big well zeppelinien riff and solo to match.

So far so good, the trip goes smoothly, but soon arise clouds on the horizon, because with the fourth title, "The Grunge", begins the turbulence area. With this pale imitation of a title to funk James Brown, Robert Plant and then some, it is the air that threatens hole! On "Dancing Days", Jimmy tries to regain handle well in hand, but the result is hardly convincing, with a repetitive riff to excess, without flame or engineering. Time to launch an SOS!

Alas! On the next track, the situation is further aggravated and Robert panicked now takes to Bob Marley in "D'yer Mak'er" headlines nickname reggae just ridiculous! Unless a heavenly miracle, the emergency landing is required! "No Quarter" tries well to restart the machine smoothly, but it was too shaken to pay attention and then it really not easy to listen to music head between his legs .....

The album ends in "Ocean", lost with all hands, despite a last meritorious attempt to save the device with big riffs and solos that kill death. Too late! Everyone has already joined the house of saints ....

Several years later, in 1998, the famous office investigation and accident Gov't Mule renew the journey to analyze the causes of the tragedy on his live album, "Holy Haunted House" Holy Haunted House. His conclusions are clear: funk and reggae are not soluble in the hard rock ...
