As the owner of a 580 EX II I was not necessarily looking for a primary flash but after a always there for my 5D MK II. If you are used to a small pop-up flash, which is very spontaneous helpful in many situations, you miss these despite high ISO values and excellent imaging performance of the 5D surprisingly often. Now the 580 is quite large in size and already be described as difficult. Even the long distance from the camera is sometimes unintentionally and risky for a lot of movement. All the more pleased I was at the announcement of the 270 II, because if already second flash, then please also with the slave function. So I decided against the 430 EX II, which not so comes so much smaller and lighter (though priced now not soooo far away) Just arrived and tried - everything just as (well) as expected. As the Vorrezensenten aptly formulated, small, fine and light. Miracle in the illumination must not be expected but that the lightning is neither designed nor oversized. The saving of two batteries as a source of energy is worth mentioning also saves gross mass. All functions tested: everything as described by the manufacturer! This is my new vacation and always with flash and I can formulate my full recommendation. Perhaps especially for three (also freely combinable) groups of prospects: - A powerful flash unit that already exists, a smaller, lighter always there is desired - The camera does not have built-in pop-up flash and dimensions + weight are more important than a lot of power (keyword vacation / baggage) - The ability to flash as a slave and to act as a remote shutter release is interesting
I can always evaluate a product in my opinion only for the parameters that are described for this purpose or advertised. Sure more power and a master function would be desirable but but there are also limitations in the decision-mass power. More power and features in flash require currently happens to more built (some weight) hardware. For this great little flash anyway 5 Stars!
