For the price I slammed the BDP3280, also because it is 3D capable. So you are prepared if a new TV is coming up.
Now that I have him a few days in operation, I can give the following conclusion: The player is worth the money!
But first time to the negative points:
- The player / power supply is in standby mode actually a whirring / piebendes noise, which disappears alerdings immediately when you start the player. I do not mind this because I simply turn off the power strip when required and can sleep like a baby. Especially loud the sound is not, other reviewers exaggerate grossly or sitting / sleeping only a few feet away from the TV. Drive noise during playback I could not perceive, I watch my films, however, whether or not connected Sound. ;)
- It takes a good 20 seconds until the player is ready for use, after you press the Power button. This, too, I see more as a general point of criticism. Myself it does not bother, in the time I'm looking for just the DVD out that I want to watch or open a bag of chips.
- The remote control can be somewhat unwieldy use, the buttons are a little stronger to press and sometimes you really have to press twice, so a command is recognized. Unfortunately, the remote control is reduced more on the most important buttons - Zoom, camera angles or similar buttons in vain. The missing features are set through a einblendbares menu.
- When watching a DVD you can by pressing the "OK" button to get information about the current movie. (Playing time, remaining playing time, chapter, etc.) When playing a Blu-ray this will not work, but you must first go to a sub menu of the player and select there "Info".
- Small drawback: The display is spartan and provides some words like "Home" is flawed because the numerical LEDs are probably not very flexible. Little detail for those who are interested: The color of the display looks from an elevated point of view rather light blue.
Now for the pluses:
+ Blu-rays look awesome. I have previously seen my Blu-rays on the PC and with "TotalMedia Theatre" and already there it looked great. With the Blu-ray player this still manages a tad better - "Avatar" made an even more vivid impression. The focus is crisp and the detail is stunning. A stuttering was observed neither for DVDs, Blu-rays at still. In contrast for viewing on PC everything seems a tad smoother. Thanks to LAN port also Blu-ray Live offers can be used comfortably.
+ The upscaled DVDs look chic, as long as it is a decent buy-DVD9. Worse mastered DVDs certainly see less to HD from, but rather by Pixel Parade. The Sharpen and scaling up of the player not only enhances positive image aspects.
What I would have liked to own customization options for scaling would have been - ie regulating the focus signatory, etc. But for the price you can not complain and genuine DVDs look really good.
+ The 3D support is a nice little bonus, and the price can not say no to. I am interested in 3D for the home, however, not yet, and I run a 2D Full HD TV. Nevertheless, one has the feeling that one is being prepared in the future and up to date. The next TV will then certainly show what the Philips player has in 3D so it.
+ The more Plus gets the operation, because thanks to the good menus quickly finds his way and the manual can be left in the box. So also the beginners quickly make the proper settings - If a menu item is highlighted for a few seconds, a small, detailed description of the item appears again.
+ The device is very positive impression through the USB port. My external USB disk by Intenso requires otherwise two USB ports and is connected via Y-cable. The Blu-ray player is from but enough power from one port that the hard disk can also be conveniently operated on the player. Previous (DVD) player did not recognize the drive, or did not provide enough power.
+ Design and manufacturing of the player are at a good level and the shiny silver plastic bezel makes a noble impression.
+ The device is truly no hulking, big box, but pretty small and only 19 cm deep. For me, a plus. Who wants to be stacked, however, must ship the player to the top.
(+) Supposedly also be quite economical the player when it comes to power consumption. In any case, which has been mentioned several times in the technical press. Since I can not confirm this point, nor refute, I give a plus to reservation.
Conclusion:
Surely the player has its shortcomings when it comes to start-up speed, noise or remote - but if you want more, just needs to pay more. For this, the device can score in the remaining disciplines. For me, it is in fact in the end no matter whether a player now takes 15 seconds to boot up, or 20 - at the end of the output quality has to be right. Just because he does not Schnitzer Player. The picture is so crisp, processing looks classy and thanks to USB port Support DIVX, MKV, etc., the device can play quite a bit. The good scaling of DVDs, the ability to play 3D and the price then do the rest.
I speak from a buy rating and if one should disturb the humming, you can turn off the power strip still or simply focused on the ticking of the clock in the room - for that is much louder. :)
