I just finished reading this book, it what one of my favorite books for a long time. One of those where you are out with friends, and you realize That you really just want to go home to continue reading. Due to some bad reviews, I waited a long time to to read this book (for me, The Secret History is on my list of top 10 books, and Donna Tartt's 2nd book was a very strong disappointment afterwards ... I was worried the Same might happen with The Goldfinch). In hindsight, I am very surprised thatthere are so many bad reviews and maybe Should Have known not to listen to them. There is not too much happening in a lot of the book. But the first third of the book, about Theo's youth, really drew me in and while some of the later sections could have been a bit shorter maybe, I was pleased That I could take part in Theo's life for longer. Some people complain the book is too long, but it only Took me 6 days to finish it (one whole Saturday, the other days only in the evenings - I am almost Generally a reader). I am not sure if this helps anyone, but the book reminds me somewhat of a casual vacancy by JK Rowling. Bad reviews did put me off for a bit, turning out to be a book That I did not want to put down, even though there is Actually not so much happening within the book. I think Both authors have a similar kind of descriptive writing style, did really works for me and makes you feel you really know the characters in the book and are a part of it. I have not really put a description of the storyline ... for that, I think the blurb on the book is Sufficient ... It does not describe the book fully, but it what all that I knew about the book, and that worked well for me, as I enjoyed knowing not what Theo's life would bring.
