I use my tablet for 2.5 months now intensively and I think I have enough experience to share my feedback.
I hesitated between Motorola Xoom tablet and Iconia Tab A500 from Acer. The first came just before the market and it also often topped the tests but there was no opportunity to read the USB connector and the micro SDHC not working on that date. So I NIOHC ACER.
This is a very nice product, as already previous posts say the quality is at the rendezvous. This is a very well finished product and which is not at all cheap.
The tablet comes with a charger (a little large for a phone), a USB cable for syncing with a PC and a small "cleaning cloth" to clean the screen. The protection does not come with and I find it a shame because it is essential to provide for. A bad move being so quickly. Either that Acer is the leather, less expensive Navitech (see these products on Amazon). Note that the tablet can not be loaded with USB charger which implies more to be ... shame!
I use coupled to a Domino 3G + Wifi allows me to compensate for lack of intrinsic 3g. This domino must find its place for sure, but it allows to connect other devices which is a plus for me! The tablet and works very well wherever 3G is present as if it was originally equipped!
These strengths are:
1. The overall quality of the product - The most beautiful effect - it "throws" even if it is slightly less than the iPad2.
2. A high quality screen with great definition. It's a real pleasure to use and look at photos or surf is very pleasant way. I use it unprotected and so far no scratches or other problems. It is too shiny and suffered its brightness outdoors. It also dirty too quickly. The "cleaning cloth" is very useful!
3. accelerometer is very powerful and the landscape passing / portrait is a natural and very smoothly. The slip of the pages is also very fluid, vertically as horizontally. That happiness.
4. The additional memory. In addition to the 32 GB native, I have my tablet with a micro SDHC 32GB; With USB I also have two USB micro each equipped with a micro SDHC 32GB, which allows me to have a total of 128 GB at hand. For an additional cost of 100 that makes an unbeatable capacity at that price.
5. The USB connection allows to put the storage capacity but also more easily be able to exchange files with any other device. It is true that the ACER supports only FAT32 but to date this has not been a handicap!
6. micro HDMI connection to watch, if necessary, on a large screen.
7. The OS Android Honeycomb 3.1. It is user friendly, its customization and simple adjustments are well made. The office is convenient to use and very useful widgets.
8. Android repository. One criticism that much but I know both worlds, I found on Android market all major and useful applications of Appeal world. The applications are a little more expensive in general and plant more often than on Apple. But hey, it's against the part of the greater openness. Call is really closed! Honeycomb is in its infancy and has I already made three updates. This will get better and better and new applications arrive daily. The compatibility of the tablets is now taken into account by developers and I have no major problem there.
9. The power of the microprocessor. The applications are fast and fluid. Surfing is immediate, playback pictures and other video without problems.
These weaknesses are:
1. The brightness of the screen that makes it difficult to read outdoors. I'll equip it with a matte protective way to improve this. It gets dirty too quickly but it is the case of the Ipad and Iphone ...
2. WIFI sensitivity. This is THE real problem. It is weak and it should not stray too far from the terminal. I had to add an antenna on my home BOX to use my tablet all over the house! The protection that is added is not to improve the situation.
3. The calendar and the original mail client that are very "short". But it replaces them with not very expensive applications of the Android Market.
Neutral points:
1. The weight, not the lightest but really that is not disabling. I intensely used and it is not a problem.
2. Autonomy, surfing use, consultation and sending mails, reading, photo and some music, it takes about 7 hours and it takes just two hours to recharge. Ipad is more efficient on that.
In conclusion:
This is a great product, I do not separate myself more and for surfing and mails it replaced the laptop at home. It does not replace the Smartphone for travel but it could do so without problems. I suggest that this tablet is a very serious competitor to the iPad, which oddly appears little in the media compared with the Xoom that we see everywhere.
