The beginning is hilarious. This family shifted to behavior that has a knack for getting into awkward situations have a good laugh the whole family. It turns bed with my 8 year old daughter, a chapter each, and have fun as much as the other. She made me read some passages three times in a row to make it laugh, and we even re-tells jokes taken from this book.
The medium develops a mystery around a young ghost as possible, which is very well led. There is always some humorous episodes, but the atmosphere becomes more mysterious.
The last third is moving. The mystery is solved in part by the revelation of family secrets of the next house (but it remains unexplained things), the story becomes clear and plays on emotions. There is always some good touches of humor. There is always an aura of mystery. The text plays on all registers at once.
Although much has been explained in the end, the conclusion is partially open, letting a chance to mystery to persist beyond the end of the book.
A very good read in my opinion.
