Now for my experience with the individual points:
1. The SmartWatch is to be a real stand-alone device and no other Mini DisplayPort of mobile phones.
The previous smartwatches were, to put it with Steve Jobs, not so smart. Without mobile those things are fucking stupid and self with mobile phone they were usually no better than a second mini display with a remote control. The Samsung S Gear goes one major step towards smart:
- It is a stand-alone phone with a useful speakerphone. In addition, they can be coupled to a Bluetooth headset or a car kit. For the short distances out of the house, the phone can now therefore remain truly at home. Also...
- ... Pushes the Gear app notifications of smartphones without Bluetooth connection at the clock. So even on the fast track for tanks or the shopping mall you're with important messages in the image. While you can not reply to most notifications, but also immensely decelerates and you still have the ability to quickly send or get through an SMS.
- Can be navigated, Browsing with Opera Mini at least rudimentary and newsreader already exist with Here Maps.
2. The SmartWatch is comfortable to wear, be unobtrusive, yet stylish.
To return again to Steve Jobs: In the first iPhone presentation he showed a nice, non-serious film of the new Apple Phones: An iPod with a dial. In order for the discouragement of many developers is good to the point, consider the equipment simply a linear fashion. Why should a SmartWatch exactly look like a clock, or even still be around? It may be a Designgag, but not more. A SmartWatch is to look good, good to wear, but also smart. And that's the Gear S safe. She clings thanks to the curved AMOLED displays almost like a bracelet around the arm. At the same time elegant achieved thus the largest possible screen. And that is the sum many times smarter than the clunky Gear predecessor or the clumsy attempts like "I am a SmartWatch, but no one is allowed to see it." Our understanding of (smart) change Watches - Samsung has success, will - just like the first iPhone.

I was swinging right after receipt of Gear S on my mountain bike to try out the clock. And here the clock fun. In S-Health then select the function "Training", "cycling" and off you go. The Gear records the most important information, such as route, peak and Durchschnitssgeschwindigkeit, middle and highest pulse (continuously !!!). At the same time you can leave your Smartphone at home, GPS and phone functions goodness. The pulse values I have to check yet, they seem to me a little too high (eg resting heart rate measured at the doctor at the 50, Gear S around 60). Improve yet are two things: 1. The training function seems to be considered in the calorie measurement only the route, but not the pulse values. 2. For sports such as weight training, squash, ... where only the pulse values are interesting, lacks its own recording capability (eg, "free training"). You have posted example under "Go" this then. The pedometer seems to me quite accurately, it delivers approximately the same values as before my Vivofit Smart belt. All in all, a successful implementation of the fitness functions. But I expect more eagerly the announced driving and walking navigation solution of Kommot for Gear S.
4. I want to come up with reserve in the evening with the device throughout the day.
If one uses the SmartWatch with your phone and uses them moderately, also what the notification functions are concerned (with me is eg via Tasker app data synchronization outside of known Wi-Fi networks on manually), I am after a normal working day on about 40% battery power. The situation is different when they are used without a cell phone. Then the battery is quickly running out and I have significant concerns that it extends beyond the day or you can record longer training. I will now try to disable UMTS, in the hope that 2G mobile saves battery power (enough for push notifications would be all). I'll update the review.
In summary, I am thrilled with the Gear S and hold them for a really huge step towards "smarter SmartWatch." Deduction is available for the restriction to certain Samsung smartphones (nobody understands this strategy) and the battery consumption in stand-alone operation; perhaps something can be improved with a software update with the last point.
My conclusion: A clock is not always a clock, but a Smart Watch is a clock and otherwise can and should it aesthetically and functionally set new standards.
Addendum: Tonight with deactivated WLAN and Bluetooth pairing with the score of 4 for about 17 more hours 58% battery!
Supplements 24.11. Battery Life:
- Connected to the phone via Bluetooth, the battery life oscillates after a day of 7.00-23.00 clock to just below 60%.
- Standalone after 16 hours to around 20% (at data, but 3G turned off, including 1 hour of training recording with pulse measurement)
- Standalone GPS enabled: After 8 hours 10%.
Addendum 14.4. to update and almost 6 months of experience:
1. I do not want to miss the clock. My phone is now home very often. Now it is getting warmer and because of this advantage is determined even more practical.
2. Battery life has leveled off at the maturities mentioned above.
3. An update enables it to respond to WhatsApp messages. Even a conversation to initiate, but will not do.
4. Kommod for Gear is available; In contrast to the promises of the advertising is not alone as a stand app.
If there was a reviewer half stars on Amazon, I would forgive three and a half star. The foreclosure by the fixation on certain Samsung models means that the ingenious se SmartWatch not widespread. That again means that for the Tizen platform hardly apps are developed. For me, the reflections of Samsung are incomprehensible, not to open the Gear's app for all Android phones. It seems here that you want to abuse the Gear as a marketing gimmick for Samsung phones, instead of pushing the SmartWatch with high dissemination and wider compatibility. Samsung seems well but reap enough profit to be able to afford such an absurd distribution strategy.
