A few pros and cons off the usual points (64GB version)

Asus VivoTab 8 M80TA-DL004H 20.3 cm (8 inch) tablet PC (Intel Atom Z3740, 1.3GHz, 2GB RAM, 64GB HDD, Intel HD, Win 8) Black (Personal Computers)

-> Update 2 after 2 months:
1. There is finally a Wacom driver ([...]), which activates the pressure levels and - more importantly for me - a radial menu for the pen button brings, on which you can grab some arbitrary functions or keystrokes. Calibration works, but takes no more than a marginal improvement.
2. The display has got two edges and especially in a corner very distinct yellow spots. If I was in Germany, I would send it back as defective. 1 star deduction.

-> Update to the first travel weeks: small size / weight are great for carrying around in your backpack (screen protector + Buff scarf rich completely as protection), but in particular the tap is for me as a 10-finger-writer and all-with-the keyboard-makers very annoying and disturbing. Once one pops up the full keyboard, not even half of the screen is in landscape left in portrait mode, the keyboard is only a snail's pace to use. Shortcuts are cumbersome to achieve or not (eg lack Pos1- / end key on the onscreen keyboard). Driver updates for calibration there really is not still, the single micro-USB port for data exchange annoying, some menu items than with a stylus accessible. The positive points listed below remain but of course there are, and in particular the display excites me as before in terms of brightness and brilliance.
In short, I am considering to upgrade in Singapore on 10 or 11 inches with 2 USB ports and full (Bluetooth) keyboard. Nevertheless, the Vivotab 8 is the best current Windows tablet in the price range and for many application scenarios ideal in my eyes. Greetings from Thailand at about 40 ° :)

I chose the place VivoTab Lenovo Miix or Dell Venue mainly due to the Wacom Stylus. And I would say: It's a (good) compromise.
First, the sense or nonsense of a small Windows tablets: It is me to a backpack travel used (plan routes, manage photos and executing, writing travel reports, read, ...). For the journey there must of course be as small and light. And because I do not give up a full MS Office, Photoshop, my language learning software and so on, it had to be Windows.

So now but concretely to VivoTab:
- First, a big Pro, I've seen so far listed yet nowhere: There are 1 year of "unlimited" storage in the Asus-cloud (Dropbox clone). Although came with me a message that were released "1000 gigabytes", but of space still is "unlimited". I have the speed of the cloud can not test in detail, but too slowly, she does not seem to be. [Update: the Upload it swayed me the time of day 80-500 kbyte / s in Germany on a university administration]
- That the tablet the Windows button physically on the side (instead of on top of it) has, I find very pleasant.
- The pin is properly seated in the housing and falls definitely not out during transport. (But yes, it is really thin and not very stable. Other Wacom pens work fine.)
- The automatic brightness control I find enjoyable. The display is bright enough to indoors to mask the reflections even in bright sunlight, outside in the sunshine, the display but too dark. [Update: in the somewhat hazy big cities of Thailand, the display is also in the penumbra still outstanding!]
- The touch screen has no (working) anti-fat coating, the tablet smeared significantly more than my other touch devices and can also be significantly more difficult to clean (really just water + Spüli right). I'm going to buy a slightly roughened protector.
- For me, all the buttons are indeed difficult, but have a noticeable pressure point. Not great, but not bad. Since there's probably a series dispersion (so far but I have only the 32GB versions Negative heard about the buttons).
- The 64GB version the recovery data is stored on the internal memory (total gross 9GB.), So that the Windows partition from the outset has only 48GB. An extra memory card (unlike the 32GB version) not supplied.
- For me surprising: There are significant delays in desktop mode. And sometimes even when you open a context menu. The speed is of course not nearly as lame as old Atom netbooks, but at program start you have ever wait 3-5 seconds. As I said in the Desktop mode; the Metro interface is fast and fluid. [Update: if you have several programs open - eg Firefox, Word, Adobe Reader - even the wait time increases when you load Metro apps deurlich.]
- The internal memory is pretty lame: For very large files around 20 MB / s write and 45MB / s read, even with MP3 / photo size increases the writing clearly from, and lots of small files (eg program installations) are a Qual. Other tablets are at least a little faster, but these low speeds Tablets are generally not up to date.
- A really significantly faster UHS-I microSD card is described in h2testw with 13,5MB / s and read at 18MB / s.
- About an OTG USB adapter (not included non A small impudence ...!) Will my small 2TB hard drive and my not exactly power saving USB3 stick reliably and with roughly 30MB / s.
- The finger-calibration is with me from work very well, the pen calibration but not especially in landscape mode especially, and they can be combined with standard tools - as usual - not even improve. 1-3mm at the margins sounds little, at the tiny buttons on the Desktop mode but which is close to "unusable" for tapping local Buttons & Co. I have a steady hand with slender fingers and meet with hand list entries etc. thus ~ 90% the first time. Most people (incl. Me) will find still more or less annoying operation in desktop mode without an external keyboard / mouse. [I also find the touch operation increasingly nercig because I but mainly stay in desktop mode.]
- The current Wacom driver from the Wacom website (version 712-9) can indeed install without difficulty, but the preset calibration is then much worse, and the Wacom calibration dialog (which replaces the Windows dialog) does not work, recognizes the pen input is simply not. I am curious to see if / when Asus will subsequently supply as promised, also work so that the pressure levels of the pen (better?). The German Asus website knows the tablet still does not, on the British There are no newer drivers that are not preinstalled.
- The included power supply provides maximum 2A (10 watts). This 2A pulls the tablet also features a relatively long battery span and slows loading until almost full battery. However - Be careful with travel battery - pulls it fully charged in standby 1-1,5W from the socket, which I find totally incomprehensible. Travel batteries are (overnight) then quickly when you are not careful. On a stronger power supply the tablet does not draw more power (and therefore does not load faster).
- Asus müllt the tablet as good as not at all with its own software. A few apps for webcam & Co. are preinstalled, that's it.
[Update: From the touch operation in Word 2013 I am disappointed rough: The cursor moves only to the beginning or end of a word, even if you type in the middle pure; The AutoCorrect "corrected" many completely correct words (even those that are in Word own Wöeterbuch) ... when writing a foreign language text (and the language of the Typed is changed correctly), each (!!) word, the writing, automatically in a German changed if you do not press at every word individually the escape key; more complex (but common) keyboard shortcuts go not at all (eg Ctrl + Shift + B for bold), the right-click menu is replaced Sinnfreies for power users through a ... All this behavior does not appear to be switched off! A disaster for power users!]

Bottom line, despite all the criticism 4 stars (Update2: 3 stars wg yellow spots on the display.)?
Yes, because who like others have said before me. The price is (as with other 8 "Windows Tablets) for what is offered is very low, the pin a unique selling proposition and many of my points are so critical because I Tablet for others use purposes as well, most people want, namely as an emergency production system.
I wait still longingly at 4: 3 aspect ratio, more RAM, separate USB 3, a faster and more "hard drive", a dedicated Mini-DisplayPort and a productive Windows with better size scaling. It is still allowed to dream.
