A good investment to make an old laptop computer suitable for a current installation of Microsoft Windows XP

I had to stand around an old Acer Aspire 1300 notebook with 256 MB SDRAM. While I have Windows installed always good ge-updated, and an antivirus program, it has become unbearably slow over the years. The Task Manager indicates that about 300-400 MB of virtual memory is in use.

Then I have bought and installed a 512MB SDRAM SODIMM Komputerbay.
When you first turn after installing the BIOS has reported that the memory configuration is incorrect. Since the second switching it now works properly but, by now several weeks.
This notebook is however not become really fast. This is probably due to the S3 Twister Graphics, and on the non-SSE-capable Athlon XP processor.

Conclusion: A good investment, but one should not expect miracles.
