A good phone at a good price!

I have the Nokia 5530 XpressMusic gained a few weeks ago. The mobile phone comes in a matching color carton, safe and shockproof packed, with various accessories in his luggage: power supply, USB cable, headset, manual. Everything is neatly packed easily hidden at the bottom of the carton - as a focal point during the opening acts clearly the mobile phone itself.
What I did not understand until now is why in my black phone a white headset was included. My guess at this point to a packaging error. (I must add that my phone does not come from Amazon.com, but out of a contract.)

After the SIM card is inserted through the side opening (the additional memory card is pre-installed) you need to use only the battery, and off you go. For the first two options, however, should be exercised some caution: If you push the SIM card accidentally upside down into it, one must first remove the back cover, if necessary, remove the battery and then removed by the battery compartment with the aid of a slide the SIM again. Although the back cover makes a relatively stable impression, but tilted slightly when opened. If you are not careful, you break the hook from a sometimes fast. Normally, the rear door will be open but probably not as common, so that the problem is rather low.

The phone is comfortable to hold, and with the battery it gets a pleasant weight. What I can confirm, but do not feel as strongly disturbing is that the screen lock has game - shakes you the phone slightly, rattling the key. Otherwise, the device makes a stable and clean processed impression.

Depending on whether you bring your own SIM card or the phone gets a contract, some adjustments are advisable to trim the cell phone on your own needs and applications. Here, however, the device offers a number of options that can not all have to be aware - Much is correctly configured at the factory and requires no modification. What is striking, however: Some functions or settings can not be found directly. I had to, among other things when looking alarm clock a few minutes before I had discovered the function in the settings of the clock. With my old Nokia 6610i there was a simple function 'Alarm Clock' which was to be found much more quickly.

As already mentioned in other reviews, the device does not have a touch screen with an electromagnetic field, which is controlled by weak contacts but is activated by applying slight pressure. I personally find the use of the display as pleasant and easy, the activation points are well placed. Also delays in the entry so far I could not tell what would just stand out like text messages while typing text.
However, what is slightly annoying, but to be expected with a touch screen, of course, are the fingerprints on the display. Unfortunately, these are not simply wipe with a cloth, but must be removed consuming - what almost not worthwhile, since one shortly afterwards, the impressions on the device. Here would be a display that would be easier to clean, have been nice.

In the next part, I will focus primarily on the areas that I use regularly and which are important to me. Of course this can vary from person to person.

Point 1: accessibility to functions.
Every now and then you need to access certain features, such as the calendar, the clock, Bluetooth, SMS. The Nokia 5530 offers this a large number of shortcut ways to get used to fast: When you click for example on the clock, so you get into the clock settings, where you can also provide the alarm. Above the center of the display somewhat reduced the current date and the activated profile is displayed - If you click on it, you get a scroll down menu, where you call either the calendar or with a single click can switch profiles. In the upper right of the display, next to the battery indicator, active services such as alarm setting, Bluetooth, WiFi, or the icons for missed calls, a new short-Share or connected accessories (headset, headphones) are displayed. If you tap on it, you get quick access to the various options, if available.
At the bottom of the home screen there are four shortcuts can be set individually - for example, SMS, Bluetooth activation, games, or other program accesses.
As you can see, we get a lot of ways to get through shortcuts to the desired location or service, without struggling to find in the settings or the program overview. If necessary, up to 20 contacts from the contact list can be displayed as a shortcut on the home screen (see image example Amazon). Personally, I prefer the function disabled.

Since I had gotten used to it, to let me wake up from my phone, I dedicate this function also a short section. As already mentioned above, the alarm hiding a bit on the phone. Apart from the alarm function offers the possibility to repeat set alarm times and at any time - day, weekdays, weekly. Also alarms can be switched to inactive, for example, if you leave, so that they then do not have to adjust.
The alarm itself starts quietly and gets louder as we often find it today in alarm clocks. To disable the alarm, you have to retrace your finger a shown on the display arrow. If you decide, still prefer a 15-minute sleep, another arrow can be traced in the opposite direction - or rotating the phone easily with the display facing downwards, making it automatically goes into sleep mode.
A Intended already in other reviews drawback: The alarm vibrates automatically if the profile has vibration activated. Unfortunately, it is not clear the. I have therefore created me a night-profile that has no vibration activated. (Here one looks forward again over the Quick Access for profile change).

Since I've bought the cell phone according to its function as a music phone of course, a few words concerning his. The integrated music player is quite easy to use and offers many different ways to manage their music collection. The preset equalizers offer generally each matching sound settings, depending on your taste but can also be a personal equalizer set.
The sound from the speakers of the unit is definitely good, although you should not expect miracles of course. The sound through headphones is however definitely recommended more because the sound quality thus clearly to win. (It's hard to describe all in a text, so I recommend a separate audio sample, if possible.)
What I'm missing is a faster access to the playback function of the player. One can on the Media button on the mobile phone (via the battery indicator) go directly to the player, but then has yet awkward select a playlist and an appropriate song in the list. A shorter access, for example, a 'play' button at the beginning, the apparatus then continues with the play last set would have been nice.

Since this is a music phone, it is not surprising that when the camera function compromises must be made. However, the camera offers an amazing variety of settings when you want to play around with it. However, the quality of the images is in adequate lighting more than acceptable, with lower light conditions despite lightning more than low. Due to the slow shutter speed when recording a photograph and the shaky position of the hand, the images are also quickly out of focus and blurred. Those who do not often use the camera function to it but not interfere too much.

Finally, something I personally when choosing the phone was very important: the battery life. I use the phone on the way to work for listening to music, which is about one hour travel time each day. For this purpose from time to time a SMS comes, or a short telephone call, or a data transfer via Bluetooth. The battery lasts about seven days by this when I've been using it a little more intense sometimes only six, but which are at least use my inside. Here I have already seen other things and am therefore extremely satisfied with it ;-)
What would I personally would like, however, a more detailed battery indicator. The device has only the display in bar form on the top right of the display. This is only for days on the full battery indicator and then falls within two or three days to zero. An additional function, for example, in the settings, which indicates the percentage residual energy of the battery (and perhaps some additional data, such as probable time until the battery is empty) would have been great.

To finally sum up the points I have just mentioned:

Positive: design, touch screen, shortcuts, music playback, long battery life
Negatives: (back flap, screen lock,) camera, small deficits in programs and settings (alarm clock, music player, battery indicator)

All in all, I can give this product a clear conscience four star, and despite these small shortcomings, there is a strong buy recommendation from me!
