Visually, the Asus notebook for my taste (almost) everything right. It is designed in a simple stainless steel look and unnecessary switches, wheel and power-saving key has been omitted. Unfortunately, also off switch was on a decent On / waived the enqueues in this model at the top right of the keyboard. For this basic feature to me, a separate switch is clearly better. Otherwise there is to say: the letters, despite lack of contrast and probably to recognize properly thanks to the good key illumination. The silver keyboard layout also looks a lot more coherent than would a black shaded keyboard. Compared to my previous model N56 the port is moved to the power plug on the left side (very good). There are only 3 USB ports and no VGA port more. Likewise, it has failed to Asus, the keyboard layout to adjust the range of the cursor keys. It lacks a physical separation from the rest of the cursor keys on the keyboard in order to operate them even blind can! As a last resort remains the brushed aluminum on the outside of the display to mention: for me not only visually but an appreciation (at least so far) and insensitive to external influences!
The technical component is the most important fact already listed on the Asus website: A i7 4710HQ with sufficient power, combined with 16GB DDR3L (energy saving), a GTX 850M with 2GB memory, a BD-Combo drive with CD / DVD-DL Brenner and total 1TB HDD + 24GB SSD additional onboard. The hard drive I have right at the beginning to a 256GB SSD replaced. During the subsequent installation of the Windows 7 24 GB onboard memory must also be formatted as Windows otherwise continuously produces some error, especially in boat operations and the change of power saving!
When Windows 7 theme I come to the first point deduction. For me not obvious reasons Asus offers to date exclusively (!!) driver for Windows 8.1 at. Who hopeful on the Asus site for Windows 7 drivers looking after the reinstallation, will not find anything there except a couple of manuals ... it did not work! Especially is it to find on a notebook without a working network card wireless let the appropriate drivers a nerve-wracking work. These are as usual needed for almost every unit built. Remedy I've found in the Device Manager: Under Hardware ID of each device the (VEN) Vendor and (DEV) Device numbers raussuchen and determine on pcidatabase.com manufacturer + Part name. Download With this information then on the manufacturer side, the drivers for Win 7 manually.
A couple of points that are struck me:
-> The fans are pleasantly quiet. Thanks to SSD, there are no annoying hard drive noise more
-> The touchpad is "loosely" built for me! Had the first notebook returned why, but it seems to be no installation errors. Also, the 2nd unit has built a touchpad that clicking noises are at every touch of yourself.
-> The enclosed subwoofer is on the go a really nice and helpful addition! I had this already its predecessor frequently in use.
-> A small disappointment for me is the battery! At maximum brightness and a dignified surfing behavior to get a total of about 120-150 min. As these values are dependent on many factors, one for me but rather my first impression. And after the battery power has become worse rather than better in comparison with the N56. It remains to be seen how much the mileage over time degrades ...
-> As is unfortunately omitted increasingly sure I raise it here expressly stated: The unit has a maintenance hatch and the ability to unscrew the entire floor. By maintenance flap alone can be replaced easily and HDD memory! Also Asus is one of the few manufacturers who fortunately still contrive to produce a visually appealing notebook series and would rather obstruct optical drives instead senseless touch displays.
