Finally, I can replace my illustrious and regretted Canon 70-200 L IS USM f / 2.8 for a goal that approaches (I switched from Canon to Fuji there a year and a half, and I have regretted that this 70-200). Certainly it is less bright, less swift and bokeh (blur quality) is not as creamy, but instead 1) the optical quality, that is to say the dive, is close to that of Canon, 2) it costs * four * times cheaper and 3) it is * three * times lighter (580 grams against 1470)!
I first thought the wait Fuji XF 50-140 f / 2.8, but I finally changed my mind: its price could be significantly higher (double?) And somewhat higher weight. Besides it will available at the end of the year. I also considered buying a Fujifilm Fujinon 50-230mm XC f / 4.5-6.7 OIS Black. But it is not in the same range. Too slow (too small opening), too much plastic and not the aperture ring. Good quality photo and bottom price (it's not a bad purchase, far from it), but the XF 55-200 is well worth the price difference for myself.
Some notes I have taken before this purchase:
- This is equivalent to 55-200 84-305 mm on all devices Fuji mount X.
- It complements the XF 18-55mm f / 2.8-4.0 (27-84 mm equivalent).
- Its weight is 580 g (that needs to possibly adding 450 g of X PRO1; in comparison, the 18-55 is 310 g).
- The diameter of the filter is 62 mm. Too bad, the 18-55 uses filters 58 mm. To avoid buying filters everything will always buy for the larger diameter and get yourself a set of adapters like this: mm 49-52-55-58-62-67-72-77 Set 7pcs metal lens Filter Adapter Rings DC38).
- This objective involves 118 mm to 176 mm long when reaching the maximum focal length. When the sun visor is mounted, the set is 240 mm and more reminiscent of the barrel of a Leclerc tank a pro lens ...
Some notes after this purchase:
- Impressive build quality for this price. Everything is steel, the parts are perfectly adjusted, zooming is smooth without being soft (it "falls" not when held to the vertical). A sensual pleasure, like all other XF goals.
- Photo quality at all focal remarkable although it is a little softer to the largest focal length and greater openness.
- Excellent stabilization. Opportunity to take a freehand picture in the evening to 1 / 10th of a second (do not take chances: use the burst mode to have more chance to get a sharp picture - the first, which is taken at the time when you press the button, is usually less clear).
- The aim is also reactive than 18-55. It's still far from a Canon 70-200 L, but it is suitable for most cases. The fast-moving subjects are hard to develop, especially when they are not in direct sunlight. In low light (indoor), the target tends to hunt. In all cases, the development period rarely exceeds the second.
- The rear caps and before included in the box and a fabric pouch.
After a few hundred photos taken on the way back from work, I am ready and I expect the firm foot vacation :)
