First, the container: the book has a very strong smell printing, it's stupid but written like that, it makes very unpleasant reading. The smell is heady, it's amazing! Is it due to poor paper quality (visible to the naked eye) combined with four color? I do not know but the fact is there ...
Then the content: If one is not too pointed for cinéphilie bis, it passes. The book does a good job of distracting us from unlikely and colorful posters. The whole is divided into short chapters corresponding to the letters of the alphabet indicating a theme rather than a genre film (!) Million in hand for planet P, A for acid etc, etc ...
What I find annoying is that the authors have some film posters, not the theme of the film, but because the poster appeared a drawing or a picture corresponding to the section of the letter.
Thus, Baron Blood (aka the vampire baron Bava), is found in the section A as acid, because it shows a deformed face on the poster. Or the acid has nothing to do with the theme of the film.
Dr. Phibes rises again (aka the return of Dr. Phibes), finds himself in the section A as a spider, just because one scene shows the poster of the film, that of death by spider bite. But this stage is in no case representative of the film. If the authors had dug a little about them, they would have made the return of Dr. Phibes chapter S and not as sadistic as A spider.
Thus, we find The sorcerers to C as brain while the theme of the film is the influence on the human mind (ok, ok, then I quibble a LOT!)
E as in electronics, Embryo movie appears, while the subject of the film is genetic research and the creation of a human being (for short, huh, it is agreed).
H as in hallucination, there is Fantastic Voyage (!!)
M as in hand, there is a Spanish Italo western: $ 4 for revenge (!!!) simply because one hand is painted in the foreground on the poster ...
In P as police, we found there two sexy comedies, the cop the vice squad. For me, these are sexy but not police comedy films ...
R as in religion, is shown the film The House of Exorcism (the other mounting Lisa and the Devil, for those who know). But the film is not based on religion ...
Other errors and inconsistencies have crept in this book, but I will not list them all. Just know that some important topics are represented by only 2 pages of posters and other very minor, they are represented by 4 pages of posters ...
The impression I have of this book (this is just my impression, maybe I am wrong) is that it is a purely directed product marketing for year-end holidays, as it offers its redneck because he said moviegoer.
For me, the subject was only flew but not dug enough. It can mislead in a neophyte who discovers bis.
Personally, I find it nice, nothing more ...
