Eton G8 Traveler II Digital Clock Radio AM / FM / LW / Shortwave with ATS (Sport)

Customer Review

First, I stress this comment is really a marvel.
Let me explain, I was looking for a portable radio set with which I may as well have the pleasure of FM, but also try me with Shortwave and other Medium and Large Waves Waves.
The curiosity to discover the world but staying at home, would not it be happiness;)
I could not find better at this price.

The price / performance ratio is truly unbeatable.

Lists of positives, starting with the available frequencies, since I have seen a number of inconsistencies on the internet about the G8;

-fréquences FM 64MHz (yes I confirm) at 108Mhz, this just because in some parts of the world FM starts well below what we used to see (hear) in France. Again, Eton Travel confirms the use of this little radio.

-fréquences Short Wave (SW) 2300kHz to 21950kHz, ie the band 13mètres to 120mètres.
-fréquences Longwave of 153kHz to 513kHz.
-fréquences Medium Waves 520kHz to 1710kHz.
-The liliputienne size, one can put it in a pocket of jeans !!!
-print of great strength, no game in assembly, quality Eton.

-Case made of a rubber coating, classy and above all that helps the stability of the unit (stand upright or leaning with the crutch, it can not slip), by cons it does not help to put it in a jean pocket, since the coating clings so well;)

-All buttons give a solid feel and frankly feels the cliqs (quietly) buttons and adjusting mollettes (one for volume called "Volume", one for setting all parameters; frequency bands, time , minutes, tempo for the sleep function, etc. called "Tuning").

-the possibility of an automatic backup of all frequencies for which the signal is strong enough with automatic storage (ATS function), I did it in my apartment in FM result, saved 37 FM stations, need I say more, simple, effective. So, the absence of buttons to manually enter the frequency is not done at all felt. I would even say that it "lightens" the front and is not displease me.

-This function ATS works for FM, MW and LW (search and store frequencies automatically).

-for SW, just press the button for two seconds or v ^, and initiates an automatic search for all stations he manages to capture, but without saving. Nevertheless every station detected, it remains five seconds before réentâmer his research, giving you the opportunity to pressed at the "Memory" button to save the frequency in very many available memory. I took the test, I could scan all SW bands, and save 89 stations !!!! effortlessly.

-the "VF / VM" button selects a short press then using the knob "Tuning", sweep frequencies or stored stations respectively. Great.

-the frequency setting is done with the wheel "Tuning", the more speed you print this wheel increases, and not progress frequency increases, result, the FM range is scanned in seconds. Again, no need to keypad.

-the "Step" button (this is the same as VF / VM), a long press on this button selects a no fine or coarse frequency (eg 1 kHz or 5 kHz or) allowing very fine frequency search, off frequency so there is a small arrow> or two >>. Again extremely simple.

-to end the positive side, the reception quality and sound FM, really stunning for such a small device. I have a sony shuttered platinum analogue radio brand on an old Pioneer amp 1978 and a wire antenna almost 3 meters, and although the sound quality is the same, impressive. I, who thought he had an unbeatable quality, a camera of this price is also good ...

-the quality of sensitivity to other frequency bands MW, LW and SW is impressive, of the 89 stations detected on all SW bands. In these 89 stations, there were all the European languages and beyond (English, Spanish, Portuguese, Italian, German, Russian or related Arabic, Chinese or Asian, etc.) and for a perfectly audible majority and the rest parasitized by cars and other scooter.
Inevitably, these parasites would disappear with the use of an outdoor antenna, but it is not the use for which the G8 was iniatelement expected. That said, it is for sale a passive antenna that allows without connecting it to improve its reception receiver (ref AN200 it seems to me, to see on youtube Aviator G6 and this antenna connection without demonstration)

-3 AA batteries just enough, and it can be found everywhere. I'll put rechargeable batteries Energizer Classic for failing to redeem all 4 mornings batteries. A charge still with a charger apart. You can not reload in the office as for G3 and G6 of the same brand.
-Finally and it's good, a small cloth bag foam is provided. Fulfilled its transportation function / protection.

List of negatives;
-I really quibble, but I think the fans of the "home-made" and technicians, there is no outlet to connect an external antenna, ie with near length of the half wavelength or more large, rather than a quarter wavelength. However for 99.999999% of people who listen to the radio, it will not be a problem, especially as this position is oriented travel, and therefore the relevance of an external antenna socket is not certain.
-the rear stand does not appear to be stronger, but the vertical position suits me very well so it's not in my opinion a big problem, and despite after 3 days of use, it holds very good and it is true that the lying position is most comfortable for reading the screen.

Here I thought essential to give the characteristics and my comments after 3 days of use.

I am really satisfied and convinced by the ease of use and the ability to have access to an almost unlimited number of station.

I took the opportunity to order the book "World Radio TV Handbook" in order to explore with pleasure every radio bands that are offered to me with this G8, now that I know he is able.

Good buy and long live radio :)
