Dark-Hunter, Book 12: Acheron (Paperback)

Customer Review

Before beginning the story of the life of Acheron, Sherrilyn Kenyon, put a small copyright note at the beginning, explaining his motivations as to the first part of the novel. Because yes, the book Acheron is divided into two parts: its past and its present.

A moving and exciting history, the past Acheron take you to the heart!

As you can imagine, the past dAcheron is far from glorious past life of Zarek and Julien side is a trip to the village of Bears in the rain. Sherrilyn, so it recounts his life from his birth to his first second, without nuances or frills to the raw state. Not having all included in the English version, I admit that this part there had displeased me. I did not understand why she was obstinate to lay over 400 pages we like that. We know that his life before was horrible but 400 pages?

Yet after four years and proofreading in French, I knew you had to confess, and to my surprise, I loved it! Please note you are good to get out the handkerchiefs because there are passages make you cry all the tears of your body! Sherrilyn but also takes us in a very different world and more original than in previous volumes; under Latlantide or gods and humans coexist permanently; in a setting where the life of the little Acheron, while still human, which should have been paradise, is a real hell.

I will not tell you what happens to him, you must read to understand and then only I will paraphrase what Sherri writes better than me. All I can tell you is that you will better understand which Acheron and in the end, she managed to make us more accessible, more human than ever. And, if you do not already hate you will hate the goddess Artemis, which was not unworthy of its status "dirty selfish bitch goddess without heart". Even his motivations as to what it did to Acheron remain childish and abasourdissantes. We can not find him no valid excuses.
And then you understand how it all started and what the issues are for each enemy or not. This is also where the reader realizes why he understand so well the other hunters: his human life is not to remember that of Zarek or even that of Julian.

Not really the first part was inevitable, necessary, and frankly I found it exciting!
In the second part we find Acheron in the 21st century. Then he thought his past buried deep in the Aegean, did not he here is a young archaeologist claims to have found Atlantis. And to prove his point, she even hold objects that belonged at that time, and stupor, dAcheron: the diaries of his Ryssa sister is in her possession.

When the past catches up with this

Unable to leave disclose to the world what it is (because it is narrated in a part of his life before and unfortunately not the most glorious to him), so he decided to bypass the young woman in his research.

Still, his meeting with Soteria Kafieri may change if life forever. Although neither do not even have seen how consciousness and sees the Soteria But just what is this feature that will attract Ach toward her. She does not see it as the women, ie a sexual object on foot. And when he understood that what interested Tory (short for Soteria) is not his body but his brain, it seems even totally captivated by the young woman.

Because not that his past is revealed for all to see, Ach is ready to help the girl in his research. What he did not anticipate is that a newspaper would contain a secret Ryssa capable of generating a true Apocalypse! Thus Demons Appolites, and Artemis are desperate to regain the property. Acheron will protect Tory, whose life is now in danger, and the attraction he feels for it will be his loss and salvation. Not to mention he is chained to the big cow goddess (I love the words of Simi on Artemis) who do not appreciate to see closer to a mere human.

The second part is lighter even though humor is far less than in some other tomes but we discover a Acheron in a new light: as a benefactor and valued member of the small community of New Orleans. There is an almost normal life and I admit that Tory as it is difficult not to succumb to a man as perfect, kind, helpful, etc.
For beneath his gothic and hard leather, hides Ach deep wounds that even over the centuries have not diminished at all. (Unlike Zarek who became wild and which is fully enclosed on itself, as Acheron no longer think others and it does feel that among the young people who do not judge them). Yet he will only have a small woman enters his life, with a fairly strong character and an iron will, to question why this had barricaded himself behind his impenetrable armor.
And in this volume is the opportunity to return to New Orleans and to see also some other more or less known characters: the demon broker Jaden example (we meet for the first time in the first part ), Savitar, (which is a Chthonian god but remains more mysterious qu'Ach), some members of the Peltier family (who does the "Sanctuary" in NOLA), Nick and part of the Dark-Hunters and Were -Hunters who come lend a hand to their leader: Julien, Kyrian, Valerius, Zarek, Tabitha, Wulf etc.
In short, the story of Acheron is no different (in the second part) of other stories with the Dark-Hunters almost, except that it shows a turning point and a development that will soon be felt. The humor even less present still remains in order and also learn to tastes of our "Achimou" ^^ favorites.

As for the love story, it is interesting only to the extent that the reader finally the readers, are wondering how Tory happen to make him lower his guard. This character, in my opinion, is far from equaling Astrid (the White Wolf, with Zarek) but the freshness and candor of Tory will be major assets to Acheron reconcile with love and self-acceptance.

What also earn us some time fort humor, be it that when some other characters discover that she is with Ach, it takes even the appearance of a state matter, but also of the highlights emotional side Ach.

This book is a real massacre that I could not let go for a second!

I wanted to take my time to read this tome but I knew that once inside, I will trouble the rest and to tell you: I have not been at all! Loved just for me, this volume is one of those that remind me why I became totally fan of the universe of Sherrilyn Kenyon, why I love what she writes. Acheron, is one of those stories that is hard to let go and after the last page is turned, one comes to regret having been so fast. I was sad to leave the world of the Dark-Hunters and I'm already looking forward to discover the next book to be devoted to the enemy and other Ach: Stryker. Another decisive volume if you want to know everything!
