The recording quality corresponds to the current level of technology. So dated receiving the Arpeggione from 1937 (!), So it is high to a historical recording. The later recordings are by today's standards of acceptable quality. The devaluation of the Vorrezensenten is therefore incomprehensible.
Apart from this, not the recording quality, but the interpretations are crucial. Together with the gramophone box "Fournier - Aristocrat of the Cello" the EMI box is a must for any Fournier fan who does not already have the recordings in vinyl. The boxes also allow interesting comparisons, eg between shots of the Dvorak Concerto of 1948 (with Kubelik) and in 1961 (with Szell).
Overall, the images are a (further) evidence of the historical greatness of this wonderful cellist. 5 stars are therefore justified.
