Bowie in Berlin: A New Career in a New Town (Paperback)

Customer Review

This book covers the period between the recording of Station to Station in Los Angeles by a Bowie exhausted and psychologically weakened because he had to shoot the film "The Man Who Fell to Earth" with Nic Roeg in the Arizona desert, and mixing Lodger, the third album of the "Berlin trilogy" in New York.
So we are following Bowie & Iggy Pop to Chateau d'Herouville north of Paris, where they recorded "The Idiot" & "Low", and then to Berlin, where they settled in an apartment during the recording of "Lust for Life "&" Heroes "in the studio" Hansa by the Wall ".
The atmosphere of the sessions, recording techniques, and how to work each participant (Brian Eno, Tony Visconti, Robert Fripp etc.) and life Berliner 70s, are very well described.
The book ends with the recording of Lodger Montreux and New York.
Very well written by an author who knows his subject, this book is a must read for anyone wanting to learn more about the creation of 6 major albums in rock history and the genius of one of greatest singer / songwriters / performers of our time.
