I will now times underpin shortly before, of course, I summarize the most positive aspects of the game:
Basically, "Knights Of The Old Republic" namely as Lego Star Wars. It looks chic, but there are just simply normal building blocks strung together. Many gray and now and then something colorful.
As an example, I would just like to mention once the rough structure of the game. You done the grandiose tutorial. Lands then applies on a planet from which it get away. If you have done the handful of quests on this planet, the "Star Chart" in the Ebon Hawk (the flying headquarters of the game) will be activated. From there you have then once again access to a very manageable number planet whose schema is knitted exactly the same: a few main quests that are scattered in the landscape. It repeats just always the motto "Complete quests planet, collect puzzle piece and then on to the next planet." In between the RPG usual upgrading the Charaktäre and then one is also equal before the finals.
That one returns to old places, is in "Knights Of The Old Repbulic" not really necessary. One simply checks off point by point in the plan and go on as if on a conveyor belt - very konsolig, very linear. Including a couple of mini-games.
But enough bitching. The nice thing about the game is that is that it has a really great back story that captivates indeed (as in the old trilogy). Twists of course included.
The beautiful side of "The Kinghts of the Old Republic":
1.) Allenvoran the great story around Malak and Revan. To use rich rarely plays a plot and compared with the new Star Wars trilogy has again made this story to arouse the typical Star Wars goosebumps feeling in me. At the latest when Dark Lords obliterate entire planets just to play it safe, that a single, suspected enemy is wiped out on the planet.
2.) The art. Considering 2007 certainly no direct eye more, but like still enchant (at the latest when you by the Matrix movies in the middle of a fight pushes free to pause and then his party right in the lightsaber duel with a superiority Sith pupils in still image, maybe even see the middle of the jump)
3.) Finally a halfway real RPG where you look forward to each new level and previously planned, in what direction you want to continue to develop his character. Should he can persuade the people efficiently in conversation or is he really fall to the dark side with all its powers? Gorgeous!
4) Hardware modesty. Even on my machine (with ancient DirectX 8.1 card runs it with some background applications in the highest resolution smoothly)
5.) The Star Wars Bonus halt. As already indicated. In this game, the Star Wars fan has cheered me several times. New musical compositions that perfectly integrates itself into John Williams fanfare and are still totally fresh. Spaceships and the whole environment, the kilogram as Star Wars flair spray. Then use the laser sword tuning and so on. Really great!
Well.
Summarized in one sentence, I would say: A nice beginner RPG that captures, but was just really made for the target group "RPG beginners": beautifully clear and linear, with no real freedom of action and epic course of history. Nonetheless - crafted worked flawlessly and what matters is that the best in entertainment, especially for Star Wars fans, is supplied.
Oh, and exactly: Please install the latest patch for the game. So the game is a lot more stable and you also to play (so ideal for 19-inch flat screens) gets the opportunity in a resolution of 1280x1024.
AND: I think you should also definitely try the second part, now I look at a lot of very reprehensible, in my opinion is even better after the playthrough. More freedom, more choices that have actually broader consequences and an improved game interface. Is definitely worth a look.
