Roland Rech presents and comments here 5 essential texts of the works of Master Dogen in an accessible translation as many: this book can confuse people interested in publishing more about meditation and its benefits, as one meets regularly.
However, it does not escape the inherent intransigence enthusiasts and other aficionados of a school or of a specific tradition; things are framed from the start, "Among the different schools of Buddhism, Zen is one that most teachings center on the practice of meditation"
Zazen zazen, and the cornerstone of the practice of Zen, and the essence of Buddhism by Master Dogen, not a technical welfare or isolation, a "thing" in fashion to feel better; its simplicity is matched only by its regularity requirement, determination and rigor, certainly like other schools such as Vipassana, or in some ways Mindfulness, this method is probably based on ability to keep in mind this experience, without judgment, and in the present moment; zazen is somehow irrelevant meditation: just sit (Shikantaza) without holding back anything, without rejecting anything, aimless (Mushotoku) dropping the mind and body (Shinjin datsuraku)
Anyway, all these schools and various practical suit under the provisions or personality, secular or spiritual, and they all deserve the greatest respect.
This manual is truly welcome, references texts are Fukanzazengi, Bendowa, Zazengi, Zanmai o zanmai and Zazenshin. Not all are in their entirety, it is as appropriate excerpts or comments, and reading them is relatively enjoyable, more "fluid" and accessible version (excellent but sometimes difficult) Yoko Orimo, whose Integral is published in Sully.
But let's be clear, the two versions are not directed at the same audience.
Roland Rech The book is in my opinion to be considered as a sort of introduction to the Shobogenzo, and destined to become a classic or even a must for practitioners, monks or nuns, bodhisattvas or simple laymen, and even interest the curious culture and Japanese philosophy.
People who are more interested in the methods of welfare or secular practices may be diverted surprises, you better know the contents before purchasing.
